Anybody know anything about macs?
Just got my macbook laptop charged up ready for configuring and all that jazz. Except, I turn it on when the battery is fully charged ready and the screen is dark I can’t actually see what it sais on the screen?
It’s not as if there is nothing to be seen on the screen but it’s just so dim I can’t make anything out.
There is a button on the keyboard that is supposed to control brightness so I pushed the brighter button and nothing is happening.
The computer spoke to me and said english language so I know that it’s about the language but does anybody have an idea about what to do?
Sorry this is a stupid post but I ust don’t know what to do and I have nobody accessible that knows anything about computers to ask. Thanks again. :)

Take it back to the shop, they’d know better than us. ;)
I don’t know about the shop :( It was my Dad who gave it me but I won’t speak to him (for very good reason I might add, I’m not a silly brat, mind you me saying that makes me seem like an argumentative brat. I’m not sorry :) ) but I think he probs got it off the net because that’s where he used to get his apple mac stuff. Hmm?
I’ve tried all the help on the net and all it wants to do is sell me stuff… how about a new screen!!
Just go to a local computer store, or call geek squad. Haha… geek squad. :D
I called my geel friend, that sounds mean but he can help me with ANYTHING! He was confused just like me!
I dont know anything about mac computers. As its a new computer and still under garauntee. Try to find out where (he) got it. Or take it into PC World. They should be able to help you with it.
I would give it a rest for tonight and start again from the beggining tomorrow, when some of the frustration has gone.
I worked in a technology shop for a bit which specialised in reparairing laptops and stuff. They had a special lab with technicians and I was lucky enough to occasionally work with them and learn stuff from them. That is definitely very odd for a new laptop. From what I gather, there is a possibility of two problems. As I am not an expert on this, I can’t remember the exact names, but one is called the interter I think, and is a wire or something which connects the screen to the laptop, and that could possibly be loose, or else the other is a more serious problem which does require a new screen. This is only me trying to remember similiar problems from when I worked in the laptop lab though.
I am a mac geek and I have never heard of that on a mac before. Weird. But as others say, go to a local computer store. Not a big store, or a big name one. They hire people who don’t have a clue, and who aren’t willing to really help, and they will just send it out to mac and you may get it back within a year. Go to a very small technology shop and they will only be too delighted to help and will probably fix it for you very cheaply or send it out under the guarantee!
Thank you cecilia :)
Maybe I should just switch it off and on again? Trouble is it is the first time I switched it on for configuration and that obviously hasn’t been able to happen because I can’t see the stupid thing. But if I turn it off and on again, would that mess up the configuration process?
My local PC World is very good Cecilia. You do have a point though and the local computer shops are very much easier to get to.
I would think that to turn it off and then back on again is what you will have to do in the end. If it is running on battery you will drain the energy of the battery and have to recharge it any way. So try it anyway.
PC world? Ah, I hate them!!!!! :o) I don’t mean to be prejudiced….or maybe I do! heh. I don’t know. They never go out on a limb for a customer. I loved in my place that the customer was always first. If they were about to buy something expensive when they could have got something just as good for cheaper, we told them. Equally, if they were going to send off something to get it repaired and it would be expensive, we’d offer to do it cheaper and quicker. We put 100% into each customer, where as I find in PC world, they have set things they want to sell, and then they try to sell them. And if something doesn’t work, they immediately send it off, and don’t repair much themselves. But I am probably biased!!!! :o)
And as for turning it off and on again, it won’t interrupt the configuration process. What you should do is turn it off, take the battery out for about at least ten minutes, put it back in and then turn it on.
Just goes to show the difference in the way big stores work. My one has proper technical guys that deal with these sort of problems, friendly and helpful. The nurds you talk of sort of skulk around making a nuisance of theirself.
Ok thank you, any additional charging in between?
Wont do any harm to try.
That is wont do any harm to try recharging the batery.
And I might be really thick but is it a really powerful battery? Are there particular parts that I should not touch at the same time? Just being safety aware.

Did you try working it on AC Power? And not off the battery?
I did charge it! I plugged it into the wall just like it said to. :)
You should have some sort of instructions telling you how to recharge the battery. Just follow them.
What is an fn key? I shall just go and plug it in again Ireland and see if that helps. I mean that it is impossible to read things on the screen though not just a bit dull. Thank you.
Oh yeah It is fully charged, just this stupid screen won’t allow me to see anything. I think I might go away for a few minutes now and concentrate on the battery and all that jazz. I’ll be back here for a grumble if it all goes wrong again.
Ok thanks you guys, turning it off and on again and charging did the trick :) I think I’ll close the post now. Nahh in fact I won’t i haven’t finished configuring so if it goes wrong again I might give you a shout tomorrow. Night.
The F15 key should make it get brighter, and the F14 key, dimmer (hit repeatedly).
It’s really worthwhile having a Mac guy come over for at least one visit.
Ok it’s all configures and working now (sitting usig it right now!) but I got three CD ROMS in the box one is iwork and the other two don’t really have titles. Do I need to put them in? Are they important? The computer seems fine without them?
Are the other two empty ones? If you cant open them they are empty. You dont need to do anything about the two spare ones. The computer should automaticly pick up any activity if they become active.
One sais: Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and the other is the same but number 2. It doesn’t say anything anywhere in the manual about them though? Should I or shouldn’t I?
I would leave it as it is, when you get back to school. You can ask a teacher or friend to help you with it.
Having somebody you can actualy talk to is much more helpful and if you can take it to school with you, to be able to show you how to do things.
Ahh yeah that’s a good idea, my Graphics teacher uses them. Okay shall close post now. Thanks guys :)
