If any more mods are needed, the current mods will choose someone they think is suitable and will be able to add something to the site

Mods and admins choose who will be a new mod. However, not many people get the chance of becoming one. There has just recently been a new mod on here so there isn’t likely to be another for a good while.
Being a mod isn’t something that happens to just anyone and every one. If that was the case there would be more mods than users.
If you’re wanting to be a mod, then just stick around and be helpful and see what happens. The mods will choose you if they need/want you.
