How can one get rid of a distended belly?

My little brother (age 8) has a distended belly. He’s had one since he was adopted at age 3 (he suffered malnutrition in the orphanage). Can it be fixed? It’s gotten smaller since then but it’s still noticeably there. He was taken for tests and stuff at the doctor, so I don’t know of any remaining internal problems. Is there anything that can be done for it?

Aww, how sad. At least he was adopted, taken out of the starvation situation, and given love. It’s OK he’s got it, unless you are worried that he will be made fun of or something.

I am not an expert.
Don’t you just love it when guys start out that way
and then proceed to be an expert.

but I would think that the reason why he had a distended belly in the first place
is because the body is trying to save the important parts and cut down on
a not so important parts. One of those is your stomach muscles.
They don’t have to be that strong.
So with good nutrition and exercise anyone including him should be able to
build Strong abdominal muscles. As a matter of fact if he does a lot of weight training he will look better than any of us. For sure.

No, distended bellies come from starvation. It’s a classic physical characteristic. The stomach bloats with gas when there is no food in it. If it goes on too long (ie: close to death), there is no way to reverse it.

There’s hundreds of reasons that can lead to a distended abdomen and a even a GP on here couldn’t offer any meaningful advice over such a forum.

If he’s healthy and isn’t complaining of any discomfort, if the doctors give him a clean bill of health there’s probably nothing to worry about.

If you feel it’s a concern see if you can get referred to a specialist in the field, a gastroenterologist. No one on here can offer anything more then untrained speculation or false hope or false fear.

The issue, if there even is one, could range from a specific food allergy to a simple air swallowing habit. A doctor might be able to figure it out, we, in the most inclusive sense of the word, can’t.

Yes, I reply to very, very old posts b!tches.
