You need to first now your threshold or you voice, try and hit it high as you can where it becomes slightly uncomfortable. Keep aiming that note until its not as uncomfortable then shoot a little higher each time… its like doing the spits, got to start small an go further little by little, if you just force it…ouch

Well honestly, and this may be awful advice, to improve my tone I just kept singing, trying new songs…. kept at it. Like under the couch said, practice.
