We are a loving couple, with a big dream, to buy a home that we can open to foster children.

As an adoptee myself that suffers with infertility, my heart longs to offer a home to children in need. I especially want to be able to bring in Autistic or other special needs children. In order to make this dream come true, Scott and I have set down with a lender and found that a few minor past due bills from our credit report are hindering us from this dream. Although we have been able to pay a few of them, we have had set backs from car troubles which hinder us from completing the payoffs by our goal date of October 1st, 2008. The bills that we would like help with total just under $2,600.00, however payment of even one of the bills would be a GREAT help! Please consider us, as not only would this be helping us to get closer to getting a home, but it would help by opening up a home for foster children as well. I am willing to meet with, and discuss our plans, as I have nothing to hide. I will gladly allow you to write the check directly to the creditor, and even give you a letter of proof that this was a gift to help a family in need. Perhaps your gift could be a tax write off. Maybe you attend a Church that would be willing to allow you to help us through them. Anyway that you can help would be wonderful!! Any little bit helps. If you would just like to send us something via PayPal, it can be sent to ******************* Any amount will be a blessing and will be put towards our goal. God Bless, and thank you for reading my request.
Eternally Grateful,
Sherri

Bills that are holding us back:
$483 Medical Bill
$270 Bell South Bill
$1352 Medical Bill
$189 Medical Bill
$299.00 overdrawn checking account from husbands previous marriage

Additional Bills that would be a blessing if paid.
$2100.00 Transmission repair on Car
$679.00 One Months Rent on current apartment
$375.00 Car Note

I also have bills to pay. Just made another one on Friday night when my son slipped getting out of the tub and had to take him to the emergency room. The one thing you don’t see me doing is asking someone to pay it for me. Now heres the thing if you cannot manage your finances now how are you going to do it when you buy a house? You need to set a budget and stick to it, stop asking people to pay your bills and learn to manage your life and money better. If your planing to open a foster home you dang well better know this before you mess up your life and the kids your supposed to be taking care of. Hope this helps :-)

Thank you for the advice, and it is well taken…unfortunately budgeting has never been our problem. We manage our finances pretty good for the little that we have. It’s the “emergencies” that arise. Take for instance, April of this year is when we first started looking into paying off debts…I paid about three of them off…two weeks later I fell and tore the main ligament in my knee, missed nearly two weeks of work…The time missed equaled the amount of money almost to the dollar that I had just spent paying bills, not to mention the additional funds that went towards the brace, PT and other things not covered by my insurance. Finally got back on my feet…literally…Went back to working regular hours, even selling household items at a flea market to earn a little extra money. Paid two more bills and a week later on July 3rd the transmission went out in our only car. At this point I am still in the brace and walking nearly a mile to the nearest bus stop from our house and then a mile from the bus stop to work, well that was out of the question. No friends or family nearby to offer rides…well off to the car lot we went…purchased the most inexpensive car we could fit in and now we are even further in debt. So you see, I am not asking for a hand out…but a hand up. I just need that hand up over these stumbling blocks that keep holding us back. Trust me, I’m not a person begging for money for something frivolous, this is a dream that I feel not only affects me, but what might end up affecting countless other people through the children we take in. I will continue to keep pressing on weather I receive help or not, however when I was told about Help.com and the other sites I have posted on, I felt that I should give it a try. Perhaps there is someone out there a little more fortunate than I that would be willing to offer the hand up. Like the gentlemen that left the $10K tip to the waitress or the family that gave the homeless man $5K and paid his rent in an apartment for a year. I know there are people out there that are willing to help. I know, because in the past I have been one of those people. Countless volunteer hours at soup kitchens, working in a non-profit pre-school on the poorest side of town for minimum wage for 2 years, not because I had to, but because I wanted to help a school that had a hard time keeping teachers. Donations to humanitarian efforts after Katrina, Rita and the Tsunami. I say this not to boast, but to show, it is not in my nature to beg, but to give. I want to get back to the place where I can afford to give. Rest assured the person or persons that do offer this help would be a dear friend to me and my family for life…not because of the money but because they thought enough to help. Thank you again for your advice and I wish you well in your endeavors! Yours, Sherri

Hi Anubis…love the name..lol. Thank you for the sites. I have posted on Modest needs but need 1250 points for approval, so I’m not holding my breath since there are so many other needs on that site. I have also posted on digital charity…but again..so many other people have posted there….I think within an hour of my posting I was already on page 3…lol. I have faith that I will get the money needed. I hope to start a second job soon…which is no small feat for me. I already work 50 hours a week, but hey, when you want something you do what you can right?? Thanks and best of wishes in all you do!

Hi Sherri,

I followed your link here from the other post on adoption.

What a wonderful gift you will pass on to your children! There are also specific agencies that provide help to people who are considering fostering or adoption.

Here is a website with some possibilities: http://www.affordingadoption.com/gran…
http://www.angelfire.com/journal/adop…

Also, talk with your employer– they often have matching grants. Or contact a local church, mosque or synagogue you are associated with– they may be able to put you in touch with someone to help with the medical bills.

Also, I put together a list of resources to help people in financial straits… some parts of it might (or might not) be of use.

Although we cannot help you financially, I will be rooting for you as you move forward in your fostering to adopt adventure.
