Well when you can’t see straight and puking might be involved…that is usually a good sign.
Really when you find yourself saying you cant say “no”.

Thanks. But i think I just do it for ‘maintenance’ purposes. I don’t get drunk, just a buzz to help me off to sleep…

I love beer and enjoy to indulge most nights before sleep. However, every doc in the world will tell you that drinking more than 2 drinks on a daily basis isn’t healthy. that’s why Im concerned

Well though I think most doctors are right, that to me sounds abit over doing it. I think there is nothing wrong with a little before each night, if as long as you can say no.
I drink red wine in the winter every night before I go to sleep to help me sleep and take medication for sleeping every day.
You sound concerned, so perhaps it is to much for you. Try talking it out with more doctors and see what they say.

Good luck!

Drinking more then zero drinks on a daily basis isn’t healthy. The question is how much of a trade off are you willing to make between health and fun.

I have been in this habitual cycle for about 20 years now, however, most people don’t ’see’ me as a problem drinker. I do have insomnia issues which I’m sure this isn’t helping. I know, wnswering my own questions right?

I have a couple beers and a couple glasses of red wine. I’m uncomfortable taking sleep aids as they are intensified by the effects of alcohol.

Its possible; but its most likely something else that is keeping you awake. For example, you may never feel comfortable while drunk, and so your body does not let you fall asleep in a way of protecting itself.

That does sound like the alcohol, alcohol puts you to sleep by surprising neural function. This is not the same sleep you get when you just fall asleep and your body repairs its self. Once the effects of the alcohol ware off your body kicks back in and it goes into over drive trying to figure out what just happened.

You may want to try kicking the alcohol and you will fix two of your problems.

Drinking alcohol just before bedtime keeps you from going into deep REM (rapid-eye-movement) sleep. You may sleep 9 - 10 hours, but if you don’t go into deep REM sleep, you won’t feel rested. Also, if having a drink becomes a habit, you are already in the danger zone. You are most likely addicted at this point. Your liver will suffer damage over time. You should seek professional help at this time. You are right to recognize that you might have a problem. That’s the first step. Now you need to take positive steps to stop the drinking. If you are an alcoholic, the only real option is to stop drinking . . . forever.
