You need to figure out visa requirements based on your citizenship.
I have traveled to Venesuela, Equador, Colombia and Argentina. I enjoyed all countries. If you want to go to Brazil you may need a visa.
It is less expensive in South America than it is in the US. I was in Argentina in July the exchange was 3 pesos to the dollar, very cheap.

Oh yeah be careful in both Venesuela and Colombia if you are US citizens, I had a few security issues on my trips.

I don’t recommend going to Venezuela, Colombia or Ecuador…there are lots of security issues…
Argentina is very cheap, as libragirl12 said (I live in Argentina, so believe me, with dollars, everything’s cheap here xD, Brazil may not be very cheap…in fact, it’s cheaper for us to go to Miami rather than Rio de Janeiro…
If I were you, I’d visit the Caribbean, Central America, Brazil and Argentina…
In Argentina the most beautiful places are the Iguazu falls, the Andes (Bariloche is awesome), Usuahia (to the south), Puerto Madryn…and Buenos Aires!
Google them, you’ll find a lot of stuff…
