friends help: High School is miserable for me. - Help.com

High School is miserable for me.

I just feel so alone sometimes. Not only did my amazing girlfriend break up with me only a couple weeks ago, but other jerks at school can be so evil at times. I just come home and be alone. I draw and paint and play guitar, but in the end, I realize that once I come out of my little world, I’m still by myself. High School is a fun experience for some, they are happy and although the school work sucks, they get by with good friends. I can’t bear the pain of everything. I just hate everything about going there and not only dealing with other people but trying not to think about my lost girlfriend.

awww, that sucks. sorry about your ex. Maybe you should try hooking up with some friends, or finding some new ones. What grade are you in?

junior…and yeah but I just don’t really have any close friends anymore. I mean my girlfriend was great, and I had friends but they’re either distracted with relationships, drugs (which I’ve never done), partying, or just not caring to ask about my life. I know they probably aren’t the greatest friends, but I just don’t know what to do anymore. Waking up is hard to do when I know the world will just crash down on my head as soon as I do.

Sorry about your ex-girlfriend.
You’re still in high school you’ll meet a lot more people, and maybe then, you could find the right girl for you. And find more friends.

Don’t pay attention to those jerks. Those jerks don’t deserve it. Ignore them.

yeah, at least its highschool; it’ll pass. You’ll manage though, try to find other people to hang with when ‘the others’ are off in their own little worlds. Take some time to focus on you.

you’re right, high school is best time you’ll ever have… you wrote that you paint and play guitar.. i think you’re great person, but you don’t show your “pluses” other people, just give others a chance to get to know you better and i think everything will go fine. wish you good luck!!!!

Mentality helps a lot, too. Even though it sounds corny, try getting up in the morning and setting some mental goals, like “Today I will have so much energy I can smile the whole day at nothing”. I’m sure part of you will think you’re being ridiculous, another part will be depressed and say it’s hopeless, but, have some willpower, keep doing what you set for yourself.

Take pleasure in what you do, too. Playing the guitar, painting, even schoolwork, when you’re doing it/have done it, reflect on it, and acknowledge that you’re GOOD at what you do (especially if it’s true). Don’t listen to people who say that’s being stuck-up, you’re merely enjoying and appreciating what you do for yourself.

Also remember to take pleasure in what other people do, whether it be for themselves or for you. If they’re painting/ drawing, appreciate it, for the efforts if nothing else :P Smile at others more, let them know you appreciate who they are and what they do, even if they don’t know you or you don’t know them. Get to know others better, sometimes we’ll find that we haven’t asked how they are in a while, too!

If all else fails, just think of a favourite song, one that’s in a major key, hopefully :P and bop around school with that, works for me!

Thanks for the advice, all of you. F.anje, I actually did the song thing today and it does help a lot. As soon as I felt my train of thought becoming depressed, I just started thinking of some of my favorite songs and it not only distracted me but made me feel better. Today I thought of “Revolution” by the beatles almost all day haha…the lines “Don’t you know it’s gonna be, alright. You know it’s gonna be, alright” really helped. Thanks.

We’re not supposed to have them out during class unless the teacher lets us or we’re in study hall or something, but almost everyone has an ipod. my creative writing teacher lets me listen to it too
