Is .COM better than .NET or .INFO (or other TLDs) — what Name would you choose if you were allowed to “make up” an TLD (domain name ending) yourself?

You must be logged in to vote:
  1. Yes: .COM is better because…
  2. No: .COM is *NOT* better because…

BONUS Question: What would *YOU* name a new TLD (”top level domain” — then “ending”) if you could decide that on your own?

I voted ‘no’ because dot coms remind me of sit coms and the evility of canned laughter.

i couldn’t vote.

“.com” because that is more user friendly.

“.net, .org, .edu, etc” because though usually contain researched and reference information.

If you are advertising a website extensively, .com is better

If there were to be a new one, .DOT would be pleasantly recursive.

Perhaps you could get your team of superheroes to stealthily claim ‘.ninja’ before anyone else is even aware of its potential existence.

Commercial, government, network, organization, education, well there all for their purpose. For me I’d go .net or .com

This reminds me of computer languages that have names for colors. It makes a lot of sense to call things ‘black’ and ‘white’ rather than ‘0.0.0′ and ‘255.255.255′ but then we end up with a huge number a names to remember (a huge number that is infinitesimally small compared to 16.8 million.)

I wondered why I even mentioned that, and I realized that it’s higher level programming languages that use the word schemes. I suppose if I kept going to higher and higher levels I’d eventually reach the top level domain where everything is perfectly meaningful and sensible.

.com is the most well known, and if someone types a word into the url window, rather than in a search engine, the first extension they will try is .com.

As for what I would name something, most of the simple words and compound word combinations for the .com domains are already taken.
