friends help: I’ve been offered a job interview later this week! - Help.com

I’ve been offered a job interview later this week!

!
I’m more excited than anything, but I’m also fairly nervous about it :P I actually almost didn’t apply for this job, because it’s a computer store (for a specific brand) and my computer knowledge is average at best, and I know next to nothing about the brand. I’ll be working in the store as a sales representative, which will involve giving product demonstrations and explaining various aspects of computer use, function, and structure. Lol, research time!
But anyway, that’s not the point of this post. I need to come up with some questions to ask the interviewers so I can get all the information I need to make the right decision about taking this job, assuming they offer it to me. For example, I mentioned to my friend that it was a commission-paying job, and she asked me what the commission structure was. I have no idea what that means :P So what questions do I need to ask regarding their commission structure? And what will their possible answers mean? And what other questions should I ask about the position? And if anyone has any other useful advice, I’d appreciate it :)

Hello hello! Comission’s kind of odd, you might get a basic wage with a percentage of your sales or you might get paid only in comission, you should ask how much you’re likely to earn and what you have to sell to get that. It might also be worth asking about their staff turnover, if they pay comission only and only 1 in 10 people last more than two weeks then they might be difficult to earn money with.

I’d get a basic wage with commission on top of that. But my friend said something about the amount of commission varying according to the size of my sales.

If its commission only I hope your good at selling , Best to ask if there is a basic wage first before you even go for interview at least you will know if there will be money in you bank at end of month whether you sell anything or not. Commision as renzo says depends on what you sell , how many you sell what time of month you sell it. You may get 10%-20% of any sale or may have to make 10 sales before you get anything

Hi,
Comission is a percentage of the goods sold. The Comission is yours to keep.
So say if you sold a computer for £400 and your comissions structure was 10% £40 of that would be yours.

Did this help??

They might pay you different percentages based on the volume of sales that you have during the period. For example, you might get paid 3% on the first 3k, 5% percent on amounts over 3k but less than 7k, and 10% on amounts over 7k. Nothing wrong in setting things that way…they’re rewarding you for doing well at what they want you to do!

Two bits of advice BEFORE the interview:

First, learn all you can about the brand and people’s loyalty to it. You don’t want to get stuck selling something that nobody really wants to buy, or don’t want to buy again and can’t recommend to their friends. (If you are considering working at an Apple store, then you don’t need to worry about it!)

Second, go spy on the store. Pretend to be a regular customer, and find out how you are treated by the sales staff, and then find out how much they enjoy working there.

During the interview, you want to make two things very clear in a sales job: 1) you are extremely goal oriented, and 2)extremely motivated by money.

Good Luck!
