I have been trying to choose a new tarot deck for ages

and one that spoke to me was the unicorn deck, but i shredded my rider waite after i found out alaister crowley was a BIG devil worshipper, does the tarot all have to do with satan or is it just the person.. would it be wise to get another deck.. i dont know what to do :(

tarot cards have nothing to do with satan if you don’t want them to.

don’t put so much faith into a deck of cards.

use them to explore your feelings and to think of situations in new or different ways that you may not have.

they aren’t magic…. you project your own feelings/experiences into the cards to give them meaning…

I suggest learning more about psychology :)

tarot cards are *all* psychology

that’s all they are.

study psychology, I think you will find it interesting.

your family’s “hidden stuff” was coming out because they wanted it to come out. They saw a card, heard the definition and filled in the rest with their own experiences.

trust me :)

I’ve studied psychology and it’s fascinating.

actually the family didn’t tell me anything, the cards did as when you read the cards you dont let the person speak until afterwards, but thanks anyways but you’re not the kinda help i am seeking lol, i already believe in it but i am unsure about the origins or how it works

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartomancy

the only help I can give is to do research yourself… don’t take what other people say at face value…

I don’t understand how people can believe in something when they don’t know the basic things like origin, but whatever, that’s just me.

Check out the link above. It will get you started.

One more piece of advice: don’t just look for the things you think you know. Look for TRUTH, whether it’s what you already believe in or something else entirely. It’s better to know the truth than to blindly follow something because someone tells you to.

Good luck

i personally don’t know what i believe about this kind of stuff. but i do know that 1) it can be powerful, and 2) i don’t understand it. to me, playing with magic is like playing with heavy machinery. it might be dangerous, so be careful.

Mostly it has to do with symbolism and how the mind deals with symbols in apprehending reality, but there are actually only a limited number of symbols on Tarot cards, one of which happens to be The Devil, so he’d probably show up to your mind in various forms if you use those cards. Maybe not if you get some very alternative deck that only has symbols that are very comfortable to you, but the hidden meanings that you’ve already learned (the ‘occult knowledge’) would likely still be there.

Just my opinion.

if i believed in evidences, i wouldn’t believe in god and i am pretty sure there is something resembling it, there is much in this world that cannot be explained, so i choose to believe in stuff that has no evidence also

I was told by a supposed tarot card “expert” that you first have to cleanse your cards before using them. Not sure if you did this or not. One way to do this is by sprinkling salt on your cards and placing them in the sunshine for a while.

Oh, there is nothing wrong with believing in things that you have no physical evidence of…that’s where ‘magic’ and law of attraction starts;) I wish you the best of luck.

all i did to protect my cards is wrap them in a dark blue handkerchief made of silk so that no unwanted energy would transfer through while in storage, but apart from that, i still dont know if they are satanic in origin or if it was just aleister crowley who was into all of that and also if they are not then which deck i should choose as none seem to be speaking to me apart from the unicorn one

I’ve had many different decks of tarot cards and never thought of any of them as particularly bad in themselves except in the weird ways particular systems of spirituality or thought were connected. But it is a very specific little system, and also some people think they’re bad things so they’re useless to try to ‘play with’ with those people. Dunno about the “Satanism” thing particularly. Crowley was very educated and advanced in his weird mysticisms but he was really crazy seeming in a bizarre way.

I hardly ever actually even touched a standard Rider-Waite deck for some reason, but I had the Crowley Thoth cards. It seemed balanced but thoroughly infused with “occult mystycism” and religions.

The last deck I owned, a couple years ago, was called “The Quest Tarot” by Joseph someone. It was very full of colorful, meaningful symbolism, and I put masking tape over the actual words to make it more pertaining to “getting a job” or “working on career” … so I only played around with them myself awhile, then threw them away.

They seemed in the way, kind of useless to have unless I was planning on making my own deck of cards like that, which I wasn’t.

I needed a bigger “symbol system thing” for myself, which I built, which was a computer, but then it broke (about 2 and a half years ago) and … I haven’t started getting back up to anything yet.

I could say that more clearly. I got rid of Tarot cards for the same reason I got rid of books, toys, musical instruments… I was having a hard time living with very little money, and wanted to have only things directly relevant to working every day in my life. So it was a personal thing.

okay, fine, also I was sick and tired of being used by Satan.

(this is a joke! but it seems the only right answer to this post.)
