hi.

i’m a young mother w/ 4 children. i’m also pregnant. i’m trying to get away from my abusive husband, but the state of nj will not help me. Basically, i want to leave the state and move west. I’ll stay at a homeless shelter if it comes to it. I can find help to get bus tickets, but i need somone from the las vegas area to vouch for me that they’ll help me when i get there. i don’t plan on actually staying w/ anyone, i just need to tell THEM so they’ll help me. any suggestions will be tremendously helpful. thanx

Dear young woman,

What you intend to do is run away from your problems. Don’t get me wrong, you should indeeed leave him. You should get out from that house. I do not exactly know what you mean when you say that the state would not help you. What I advice, is to first look up organizations that help women with the same exact problem. After you do that go to this place, if you find any, explain to them your situation. They should, have, to help you. Do not only get the idea that its only about you, think on your children. Another thing is to talk to any people you might now, especially relatives. Lastly, that guy should be put in jail. You eventually have to turn him to the police, unless you want him to do the exact same thing to other women.I do not know what else to say, hope my words can help, if not, then I wish you the best and hope you find the help you need. Best of luck.

Chivas said it all, really well! If you don’t report your husband to the police, they can’t lay charges against him and your case won’t be filed. You have to make the first move for you, for your children and for you unborn child too. What do you mean he is abusive? Physically, verbally, emotionally, or all? If any one of these qualify, you have to seek help. Shelters for abused women usually have enough resources to help you out and would be able to write the letter you are looking for. If there is physical evidence (like bruises, marks etc) on you or on any of your kids from your husband it is your duty to report it ASAP. You have to do the first move and like Chivas said, not running away from it.
