marriage help: i am in so much debt right now its not funny. - Help.com

i am in so much debt right now its not funny.

health problems are setting us back and we cant get caught up. i have MS so i cant work like i used too. my health can put me in the hospital without warning. my water was turned off today and i cant get any help for at least 2 days. the stress makes ms worse, not to mention my marriage. i think i paid more non sufficient funds than food. i cant get food stamps, or cash assistance. pain from ms is constant, my depression is not improving. i dont want to live the rest of my in pain. who would? i hate being in debt, i failed. i cant beat the pain, failed. cant function normally-failure.

Hold on, why can’t you get food stamps and assistance? That does not make sense.

How much debt are you in?

Have you investigated the possibility of bankruptcy?

Do you have anything you can sell?

Do you have a spouse or significant other who can concentrate on investigating solutions to your money problems while you concentrate on your health?

My prayers are with you.

my husband works full time, only makes 10.50 an hour. i am on antidepressants and have had counseling for years. pain has caused my depression, they just kind of look at like ‘gee, that sucks’
i had to 2 hospital stays, unplanned, that caused us to fall behind. my husband doesnt look at bils or would even know what to do with them.
i receive disability from when i was working fulltime, my employers insurance covers that until i am 65. it is more than ssi, which i had been on before i went to work fulltime. i have 8 payments left on car. we have been lease/purchasing from 1999, 2 yrs the owner decided to sell so we had to get a mortgage. that is more than rent was.
the amount of debt maybe 3000.00

I don’t understand why people are always afraid too call there creditors. Almost all creditors will work with you, or defer a payment if you don’t have the money. If you cant work with your creditors, go declare bankruptcy… think its embarrassing? Why would you want too risk loosing everything? Call a bankruptcy lawyer they do it for a living. If you don’t think its bad enough for bankruptcy they you can always call a credit counseling agency, either a for profit (they give you a loan too pay all of your creditors then you make one payment a month too them, usually this will end up costing you more in the long run) or a non profit (they negotiate your payments with the creditors, and charge you nothing).

The truth is now is not a good time for you too be worried about money. But if you deal with your money problems first it may make it easier too deal with MS. What state do you live in, most states have programs for low income medical assistance

Bankruptcy would protect you from loosing your house and your car. But the 3000 dollars debt your in do you mean credit card debt?

My first step if I was you would be too call the utility companies and tell them what has happened (don’t get too emotional). Hopefully they will be able to work with you and possibly get your utilities working again.

Next I would make a call too a non-profit credit counseling agency they will help you setup a budget. You can do research too find one online, there is a lot of good info.

for medical try reading http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/ServicesPr…

Depending on your income you may also qualify for the crisis program http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/ServicesPr…

Good luck and god bless
