Dear Friends!
I need you prompt help!
I need to contact a LIBRARIAN, preferably at a small or mid-size library (1,000 to 10,000 volumes). Are you one, or do you know one?
What I am looking for is a *computer program* that can be used to create an electronic library catalog. I need a reliable recommendation for a program that someone has actually used to create a ctalog.
I work in an non-profit institution attached to a big university in New York City. We inherited a small library from the previous residents of this building, but the books are totally uncatalogued. We’ve gotten the books (about 2,000) together in one room, and we’ve grouped them roughly into categories, but that’s all.
There are programs available online that allow you to catalog books. We have a barcode reader, so we’re ahead of the game. But the program we have, BookCollector (http://www.collectorz.com/book/) absolutely stinks. It is extremely user-unfriendly. I spent a whole day wrestling with it.
Can anyone help, or refer me to someone who can? Any program which can be purchased online is fine by us. We do have a budget for this. But: the faster you can advise me, the better! I am supposed to be cataloging these books this week, but until we get the catalog program in place I can’t get started.
