My friend is pretty stupid.
She cuts, and i have no problem with that, i view it as therapy, and im not asking for your opinion on cutting so please dont post in response to that. But she cuts and today she used someone else’s knife because her parents took hers away. She didnt clean the blade at all (stupid thing #1) and she didnt clean the wound afterwards (stupid thing #2) and now she’s got white bumps on the cut site? We both dont know what that means… and i know it takes a while for infection to set in… but im worried.
Help??

Where were you?

Tell her to go an see a doctor, it probably isn’t anything to worry about but, get her checked up.
If the blade was dirty, it could be the body fighting with the bacteria on the knife.
did you try cleaning it right away? cause the thing you have to do is disinfect it first, or it could become a huge problem. and she sould probably stop doing that to prevent it from happening once more
First cutting is not therapy, you ought to stop enabling your friend by treating it as such and instead get her some help.
By continuation to enable her she will continue to do that which you describe as stupid.
The white bumps can mean a whole lot of things, she needs to see a doctor.
Well I don’t think cutting is at all healthy but if you must i agree with dave. Get it checked out, it seems obvious that her parents know so asking to go to a doctor shouldn’t be a problem. Try disinfecting it with acohol…scrub hard even though it’ll hurt and then bandage it up
i got plenty of infections similar to that, and they healed just fine after i cleaned it , so its not a huge issue. and cutting isnt good, outer pain does not heal inner pain, doesnt matter what it is its still pain, and the more you add the worse it will get >

I think she will have to face the problem and pain really isn’t a good drug to attach yourself to. Eventually she will cause herself some real pain. Cutting could cause her to get a blood clot and that is bad.

what i describe as stupid is not the fact that shes cutting, just that shes stupid enough to not even try to prevent herself from infection. and if you know what the white bumps mean, please tell me? apparently you know that they mean a whole lot of things…

and thats pretty reassuring, thanks
but if there arms drop off form infection then the cutting would stop so its a win win situation but yes it is stupid not to clean

They are some sort of infection, which one or how bad it is only a doctor can tell you after they look at it.
Cutting is an addiction, doing the things you described as stupid are more destructive behavior associated with the original disorder. She will continue this destructive behavior so long as the original disorder is not corrected.
The original disorder will not be correct so long as you, her friend, continue to be and enabler. With addictions being an enabler can be just as bad as supplying the addict with the thing they abuse. It makes you directly responsible for her conduction and her not getting better.
is the arm swollen?

lol, its not an arm, its her upper left leg. and no, it doesnt look too bad. It’s actually healing over quite well, and the white bumps dissappeared after about an hour? so i think she’s going to be ok. and yeah, i wish she didnt do it, but its the only way that she knows how to cope, and i dont want her to freak out and go kill herself. She knows how i stand on this, and i’ve given her guidelines to follow…
