Well, it’s really about what your heart is telling you to do, and what will also be more lucrative in the long term for your life and the lifestyle you want. We can’t really advise you on that! Which option will be better able to give you the lifestyle and life that you want? Which one will make you more satisfied?

You could get your master’s degree and then become a teacher, if that turns out to be what you want to do in the long run. Why do they want you to be a teacher? If it is because they think you would be a great teacher, you can tell them that when you have a master’s and get a job at a university, you’d still be teaching.. I’d say go for it, find a way to make it happen financially. If you fail, you can always come back and take the other path, if you find out you don’t want a master’s you can always come back too. But if you don’t pursue this opportunity now, the odds are that you will never have another chance later on in life and and up regretting it.

hey! Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, Help.com wouldn’t let me log in. In my experience, family and friends always have plans for what you should do. Ignore them!!! Equally, people always expect you to do what you are good at. But just because you are good at something does not mean you want to do it! You could be incredible at something, but not willing to make an entire life career out of it, and having everyone tell you that you have to/should do it doesn’t really help.

So hagop12us, if I was you, I would sit down and listen to my heart. Deep down, you will really know what you want to do. As you have already shown, you do know what you want to do! Explain this to everyone, and explain why you want to. If you want to put their minds at ease, tell them that you can always do a teaching degree afterwards if the physics doesn’t work out. Remember, you don’t have to follow up on this, but it means you can put their minds slightly at ease and stop them hassling you, and they will probably forget about it after a while.

And remind them that a physics degree is bloody incredible! not many people have the intelligence for that or the passion. So fair play to you! And I hope you one day get the credit you deserve from all of them!
