American History Discovery to 1865

09-01-08

Around 1650 England wasn’t really in the best of condition. The English people were in poverty and had a tyrant of a king James the first who strongly believed in the divine right of kings, believed that no man was above him and that he didn’t have to listen to anyone besides God. England also had a very poor economy at this time. Many people thought moving to the “New World” as a very good opportunity for them to make some money, and to be able to start over. People in England found it started to get harder and harder to get basic ancestries to live. The government offered land for every person who was moved over to North America to work, and to help make the economy grow.
England started to deplete their wood supply and needed to expand their economy.
A lot of Salt, and sugar was found in North America and this gave people opportunity to get jobs harvesting salt and sugar. The Indians introduced them to corn and this soon became a popular cash crop. Religious differences had an impact on the people dividing the country. This is all I know about the reasons for English colonization in North America.
