I’m getting laid off =[

I’m 16, and this is my first job. There are no other job opportunities in the area that i live in, and even if there was… the town is pretty small and there are a lot of teenagers that are job hunting too.
I NEED a job. Maybe not as badly as someone who’s gotta feed their little brother or sister or something, but i have some promises that are important to me and they require money to make good on.

Does anyone have any tips at all? Any possible way of helping me would be great…

I’ve got a job for the next 13 days.

That is tough. Depending on what promises you made… you may need alot of money or not so much. If you do not need a whole lot of money , you could work side jobs. Or just grab anything you can get your hands on for work.

hmm.. well that is still alot. See with me , when I was your age ( not that I am that much older ) but I had this art thing going for me and I would go onto sites and look for local work that people needed. And sometimes I just got lucky. I assume you have school and everything as well, so you need to find something that allows you the time needed to not only work, but go to school and get your work done. Well what is your job now if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m kinda like a telemarketer, except we poll people about their political preferences, or how they like their insurance, just whatever. “Market Analysis”
And my job right now is really good, i make my own hours, schedule, i work when i want to and for as long as i want to…
I feel like im going to be jaded when i go to a different company…

Eh you can’t think like that.. new jobs come and go, you just have to push through them like anything else. Well sounds like that is experience that you could use in a similar field. Plus you are not being fired, you are being laid off so, if you go to another company…they will know that the reason you don’t have a job .. has nothing to do with you as a person.

Well you have some time before you actually stop working, so if i were you I would go on the hunt.. via online or when you are out and about and see what is out there.. maybe send out some resumes or ask some questions. Then decide what works best for you.. if you have no time limit on you promises… then you can relax and not have to crunch in the hours or over work yourself.

Try getting small jobs. Babysitting, cleaning, washing cars.

Can you collect unemployment while you search for another job? At least then you wouldn’t have to spend the money you’ve saved

Cleaning, kitchen work, packing, running errands, gardening, babysitting, newspaper delivery are some of the jobs available. These jobs will be posted in local newspapers and billboards. A better option is to work from home on your computer - write articles, sell on eBay, make a website, take surveys. In some cases, you may have to set up an account in your parents or guardians name, and ask them to pay you, after they get the money for your work. More details are available at http://kj9.info

You are young and you have not many jobs to put on your CV.

But start working on it already now, a presentation that tells a presumptive employer something about you in an attractive way.

Just a piece of paper with a nice layout, stating formal stuff about you, who you are and how you can be reached. A representative pic in the top right wouldn’t hurt, because it is always easier when there is a face to attach the info to.

Then what you have done, i.e. a description of this job and your duties there. If you acheived something of value to your employer, this is the place to state it. But also what you have acheived personally, like “I learned how to talk to customers, and how to listen…” and so on.

There is only one job to put o the paper, but it can be followed by info on other stuff like if you were a student leader of any school committees, engagement in voluntary organizations, or whatever stuff that can tell an employer that you don’t sit down doing nothing.

Under “miscellaneous” (or another suitable headline), you state if you are conversant with PC and Mac, your language skills, sparetime interest and so on.

Then you end this paper with contact informations on a referee. If suitable, your present employer. Or a school teacher, a local minister, or anybody who can tell something advantageous about your characters.

Now try to get a good service conduct paper from your present employer, like a servuce certificate to add to the CV.

Make a lot of copies of these two papers, and turn them in to all places where you would like to work. Deliver them personally if it is at all possible, otherwise add a few lines as a covering letter and send it by mail.

Don’t do this only to those who asked for personnel - do it to also the other! You would be surprised if you knew how many who want help but never got to the point of advertizing about it!

But keep it SHORT! It must not be seen as “work” to read your application, because then it will not be read at all. They must get it by just a short glance.

You may think it is odd to present yourself to companies who did not ask for it, because your friends don’t do that.

But that is part of my point! In a world of competition, do what the others don’t do!

It will be seen as a creative initiative!

my promises require a lot of pre-planning and premeditation, so i need a couple of months to achieve everything i need (which in turn, costs a lot of money) but im not planning to act on my promise until next july.
