Please, someone help me.

I am freaking out right now.
I have a Mali Uromastyx, my first one. I have had other lizards before but
I have never seen somthing like this. My lizard seems to be shedding a relatively
thick piece of skin. I know that Uromastyx shed differently than other
lizards, but this just doesn’t seem right. Please, please someone tell me what I should do.

Hmm…well i would say to get a family member’s opinion. If you think it needs to go to the vet to get their opinion, go for it. But my cat was killed by a dose the vetrenarians gave, so i kinda have mixed feelings about it.

is it bleeding at all or is there new skin under the old piece? maybe it’s just normal. you can try calling the person or place you got it from or a pet store near you to find out more info. you could also try the internet or your local library to find out more about the breed

There Is new skin under the shedding parts, he’s definitely not bleeding. At the moment he’s just sunning himself.

If you have myspace, you should try to find a herp group. Then browse through their group bulletins before asking the question just to make sure it hasn’t already been answered. I know that there are a lot of really knowledgable people on at least one of the myspace herp groups (they’re the same people who are in the tarantula lovers group) who could probably reassure you.

I had one for a number of years and I just let it be, made sure it had water and a heat source. A really cool lizard. I’m assuming you have done your research concerning diet habitat etc. Good luck and freaking out never helps…no how no way :)

Google it hon, put in the the name of species and you should be able to find pages that will advise you if this is a normal process or not, nature is a wonderful think, out snake sheds its skin but Im not sure I can help with your lizard, but Im betting its a normal procedure :-)
