Our nation was built on the foundation of equality.

Many times we hear: “We are an equal opportunity employer. All employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, national orientation, or citizenship status.” It is only assumed these rules should be practiced in other aspects of life. If I could rewrite the legislation, it would read: “All of my decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, national origin, or citizenship. Everybody is the same as everybody else.”
Unfortunately, we live in a society of hatred, regret, and complete disregard for others and their feelings simply because we are confused. We do not understand those people who are different from us. Most of all, we are afraid of things that are different. Fear controls the lives of every human being. The only reason people do not like something else is their fear of that object.
In America, there is a total population of 301,554,000 people. Of those three hundred million people, over 240,000,000 are Christians and 100,000,000 are Baptist. They believe in almost the same thing. Of course, there are differences, but nothing major like the lack of a God or Heaven and Hell. So, why is it that the Baptists do not accept the Christian faith even though they are so closely related? Of course, the Christians do not accept the Baptists either. But why is that? Aren’t sermons based on the acceptance of everyone no matter who or what they are? It is a common belief between the two religions that Jesus Christ accepted everyone, and He tried to make everyone see why He did so. He died for our sins, but we still, even thousands of years later, refuse to accept others like He did.
His family does not accept me. They believe in the Baptist religion. They believe in one God, the virgin birth, miracles, atonement through death, burial, the resurrection of Jesus, the Trinity, salvation, grace, and the Kingdom of God. I currently do not affiliate myself with any religion at all. I am in the process of deep soul searching. However, when asked, I state that I am Catholic. I was brought up by this religion, and it is what I am used to. Catholics believe in the Holy Eucharist, that Jesus Christ is Devine, the Virgin Mary, the belief in God, the use of prayer, Heaven and Hell, and the written and unwritten scripture. The two religions are hardly different. The common beliefs between the two are simply stated differently. The Catholic beliefs are simply written in a more elaborate writing style.
To be totally honest, his parents were Catholic at one point in time. The reason for the conversion is still unclear to me, but it is completely and utterly unfair that they can make a decision about me without ever meeting me. They are basing their entire opinion about me on my religion, which was their old religion. Still, they refuse to see anything past my religion. It still does not help my situation that I no longer affiliate myself with any religion. To them, no other opinion, religion, or belief is right. In order to be right, I must be a Baptist. To me, that is simply unfair.
With all the laws we have around the nation saying there shall be no discrimination based on anything but pure stupidity, why do we still have prejudices in our personal lives? I can understand where people want to separate their personal lives from the everyday laws of the government, and America spent too much time trying to keep church and state separate. Still, some moral responsibility and fairness should carry over into real life. It simply does not make sense for people to not like someone simply because of religious affiliation. Jesus accepted everyone, and no matter what religion you are, that is in the Holy Bible. Not only that, but Baptists follow the Bible rather strictly, so why can they not just accept me?
This is a confusing topic. I am confused, not because I am afraid, but because I do not understand why? More than once, I have asked him why, but no good answers ever come of it.

yeah, it’s pretty much a scam. When the decleration of independance was signed in North America people used blacks as slaves, and continued to even after it was signed. Ironic eh ;P. Sadly equal opportunity is just a hope.

I many Americans forget what the country was founded under. And almost all of those things are today being pushed away because it “offends someone” or some disagrees with it. It’s really sad.

I’m not sure but I think some of the response you got is because your rough estimates completely misrepresent the facts. There are not 100 million baptists in ‘this’ country, or even on any single continent. And they are Christians so how can you compare them with Christians? You could compare them with other Christians — but I’ve seen people do that and it mostly amounts to some sort of prejudice that one person wasn’t raised in the other person’s church or something.

Actually, I am beginning to not mind the negative comments because I just realized they can help me edit and finish up my paper. They are giving me ideas to add onto the rest of my paper…Keep them coming!!!
