writing help: I bought a First act learn to play book for the acoustic guitar. - Help.com

I bought a First act learn to play book for the acoustic guitar.

And everything was going great till i got to the part where it shows how to play the first chord and then has a small song to practice it on a song. And it has the song written in musical notes, now i know how reading music works but i dont understand how to play it when i only know one chord and the notes go up and down the line staff. Any one know how this works?
