When does a repaired ship become a new ship, due to the number of replaced parts?

It seems like you can replace any component of a ship, and it will still be the same ship. So you can replace them all, or one at a time, and it will still be the same ship. But then you can take all the original pieces, and assemble them into a ship. That, too, is the same ship you started with.

So would you then have two ships, both of which are the origional?

If you replace the hull, you’ve got a new ship . . . but until that time, you’re simply refurbishing it!

I think its only the same ship if its doing the same thing. For instance when people have a revolution or declare independence, they were originally men of one country but now live under a new flag and title. IMO, the second ship would be ship number 2 (’Titanic 2′), even if it was made of all the original parts.
