since when did being weird become so popular?
?
Oh and question number two (to save me posting another question and looking like a spammer)why is it that when indie bands make it big, youre only cool if you knew them before they were famous?

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
Since people started trying to imitate Marilyn Manson with “weirdness.”
Weird is popular now?
oh it is, you didn’t know? nobody can just be bland anymore. its quite annoying.
what kind of weird are you talking? in my mind, weird is breathing heavily and having a moral opposition to daily showers. & i’m fairly certain that isn’t in.
To me it’d be easier to blend in
i’m talking online weird, on sites like this for example, if you filled out your profile to say “im just average i like skipping, reading and moisturising” you’d be less likely to be popular than if your profile says “i like to eat goldfish”. off the top of my head.

because no one likes boring…not saying that “average” is boring…what is average anyway? and who says there’s popularity on here?
ah i didnt mean to say theres popularity on this site, i just meant sites like this in general where people have profiles and stuff. i was having this discussion with my friends and we all agree that everyone is too weird on the internet which is why i posted this, just to see if others agreed =)
lol…well I’m wierd and I’m glad it’s not popular because then I don’t think I could be myself anymore…but I do agree that online it is popular if people are wierd :)
yeah not that weird is a bad thing, just that its become more common. im weird myself too but i liked the old days where i was the only weird one and nobody understood me. now everyones in competition to see who can be weirder =P
ooh, got it. yeah, i think its just more interesting.
& the whole indie scene was (is?) about being a music elitist, so it makes sense that you can only like a band before they sell out.

OMG! I know! like, my favorite band is now mainstream and even my favorite color (dark purple) is everywhere XP I feel like I need to find other stuff to make me different
see? i knew im not the only one. just like the time when ‘The Fray’ came out with ‘How To Save A Life’. One of my indie friends complained the etire time we spoke about them and the song (which is old now anyway) that SHE was the first one to like them, that SHE liked them before they were popular, like she deserved some kind of medal or something.

Still is. I think the whole indie scene is overrated.
ah. here the indie scene is just barely getting by, its all hipsters now. so i wasn’t sure what the status is elsewhere. & i agree, its highly overrated. most “scenes” are.
because its cool to not be cool now.
before it was all about being in with the trends, following the latest fashion…..being accepted in a catagory (i.e. indie)
now its all about being individual. being different and kooky. starting your own fashions. creating catagories.
**** that.
im normal.
i wear jeans and t-shirts and listen to all kinds of music.
call me whatever you like
Finally, I’ve been weird my hole life and people didn’t really support me ^^
But wait, those this apply to people in Peru? I doesn’t right?… SNAP!

The indie scene is overrated? *scoffs* Hardly, you’re stereotyping us, and that’s why I hardly believe in stereotypes. Not all indie kids are gonna say “I knew them first” when an indie band hits mainstream. I might say the band is sell out and their music totally sucks now, but that’s only me. People are different, you can’t call an entire group of people something just because their music tastes are the same.
And I’m not a music elitist, I just think mainstream music is a piece of crap. Why should I listen to music just because everyone else likes it? Why should my favorite song be the number 1 song on the music billboard? Or in the top 10? Who cares about ratings? That song isn’t gonna be my favorite in a month or two, the newest top song is gonna be. Music is music, you like it for it’s sound, for it’s meaning, but not for it’s popularity.
Yeah, mainstream music can be good, but look at it half the time, it’s a usually either crap lyrics with a fast beat and sometimes crude meanings or overused lines of emotions that are fake sounding because they’re either too angsty or in a monotone sort of voice.
And when an indie band hits mainstream, usually their music gets just as crappy, that’s why it’s cooler to know them before, you know, when they were actually a good band. Though admittedly that’s not always the case, sometimes they’re music stays good, or others they go downhill real fast, either sounding like everyday mainstream ******** or reverting back to an unpopular indie state.
Just saying. And now my rant is over.
