What can I do for my Dog?

Help! Our Labrador/Boxer mix has been ill for over 2 months. She pants most of the time, is restless, and only eats half of her food every day. Initially she was short of breath and had a muffled bark.
We took her to a good vet who x-rayed her chest. The x-rays showed spider web-like “something” in her lungs. The vet has asked to perform an operation in order to retrieve some of the material for biopsy. The biopsy and operation will cost $2,000, which my family does not have. We don’t know if it is a bacteria or fungus.
In the meantime our lab has been prescribed 500mgCiprofloniacin X2 a day for 2 weeks. Her bark has come back a little, but she continues to pant heavily for no reason and be lethargic.
The vet and the x-ray diagnostician are mystified. Our vet knows we can not afford the operation, so she has now prescribed 100mg Doxycyline twice per day. Still this new med has made apparent improvement to our labs condition.
Our dog has had very little contact with other animals and/or dogs.
Does anyone have any idea what I am describing? Is there an answer?

If she is getting worse give her the needle that means let the Vet put her to sleep.

if you’re close to a big city that has a veterinarian school, sometimes, they will take cases like this for reduced cost. you can ask your vet to see if they know where the nearest school is

it’s so hard when your dog is sick - you feel so bad when they suffer and they cant tell you what’s wrong. and they’re absolutely a member of your family. I hope she gets better soon!

Iwana has a great idea. Wish I knew where some free animals clinics might be! I also think $2,000 is rather high for a biopsy. First off, I’d recommend contacting te nearest veterinary school . . . and DON’T just talk to some receptionist–do whatever it takes to talk to a professor or department head. All receptionists want to do is get rid of you.
