i caught what i believe to be a brown recluse spider in my room or in other words a “fiddle back”.

thing is i live in upstate ny where you would never hear of any such thing although there has been reports of brown recluse spider bites in long island. i did the research on them and they live in much warmer climates. i want to have it properly identified but i don’t have a camera to post it on the internet. i have found several of these spiders in my house in the last two years but have never been bitten. who do i call or email so i can have it sent some wheres to be identified and what can i do to prevent these things from multiplying cause i read that exterminating them does absolutely nothing.

Could be a wolf spider. If they are brown recluses. . .uh. . .yeah, get those bums identified. Take pictures. Hopefully they’re just harmless wolf spiders. However, since there is much doubt, I wouldn’t go poking my hands into clothes piles, the closet, storage–etc.

a friend once told me the best way to get rid of spiders the humane way
would be to use lemon all throught the house.
apparently spiders hate lemon!

take it down to the local animal shelter or vet, theyll be able to tell you where to take it to get it identified, and a vet might even be able to do that.
if you suspect its a brown recluse for the love of god dont touch it. ive seen what those bites can do :S

youre right, they are extremely rare where you are, but you can find em. if it was hiding in a damp, dark place then thats another signal its one, brown recluses are called recluse for that very reason. if you found it just out running around i highly doubt its one.
