What should I do?

The story is that I am in Year 11 (my final year in my school) and I have only just come back to school today for the new year. But I have been fearing coming back to school because of my issues and stuff I have, like anxiety, being shy and a bit anti-social, plus I am known to have panic attacks. Plus also because of a new school year, our classes have changed and I am really fearing going to the classes where none of my friends are. As I said I am a bit anti-social and shy, so I don’t like being on my own in a class with people I don’t know. I have been bullied before, especially in classes where my friends are not in. Later on today I have an English lesson (with no one I know) and I am thinking about skipping the lesson. When I do get home I am going to talk to my Mum about some changes etc that can be done in classes but what should I do when I am scared to go to lessons?

I was thinking of just completely dropping out of normal school lessons but working in the school’s student support centre instead. Obviously this will affect my education, but at least I will be comfortable.

The way to overcome panic attacks are to talk yourself round them.

For example, whats the worst that could happen?

If I were you don’t let anxiety rule your life or you’ll never get over it.

Go to your lesson. Grin and bear it. Just go to it. Ask one of your friends to walk you to the lesson. No matter what issues you have you can’t not go to a lesson just because your friends aren’t there. Sorry but it just can’t work that way. You need to go and then you will be fine with it. If you don’t go, you will be even more anxious next time it comes around.

Try to sit nearest the teacher so that you can discuss the work with them when you need to and so that they can keep listening incase someone does deside to pick on you.

But what you need to realise is its not your fault if you’ve gotten bullied, its something unfortunately most people experience and you need to deal with it as soon as you get problems. Talk to any/all the teachers you can and your mum.

Don’t let your issues be in control of you. Be in control of them.

R4VE Girl, I will give you some examples from military history. Some of the greatest tacticians, the greatest generals, KNEW that their battle plans could fail miserably. They still paraded in front of their troops to inspire the soldiers with confidence, and they maintained a show of bravado knowing full well that their plans for victory could turn into a rout. The soldiers, you see, did not want to see a general whose face was clouded with doubt, or who felt unsure of himself or his ability to win a victory. What I am saying is that you have to display confidence, fully realizing that you may fail in something. Some of the greatest generals lost battles–George Washington, for example, lost every battle in the American Revolution save one. But the greatest generals picked themselves up from a defeat, internalized the “lessons learned,” and got ready for another campaign. Here’s the alternative: if you LACK confidence in yourself and your abilities, you most definitely are going to fail. OK, I’m going to condense this: in one certain sense, you have to FAKE IT. That’s right. You display confidence, and you do your best to have confidence in yourself, while butterflies are flying around inside your stomach. You just want to get those butterflies to fly in “formation”! By the way, Winston Churchill was about the only senior leader in Great Britain who really wanted to oppose the Nazis. Did you know that? Did you know that others in the British government were advocating an “armistice” with Hitler? Did you know that Churchill thought that Britain could still lose the war, but he kept up that “bravado” to inspire the British people? Now just imagine, R4VE Girl, you would be writing your posts in German if it hadn’t been for a cigar-smoking, rotund little man who exuded confidence while knowing that he could still get his *** whipped!
