Pain and nociception help: No one will help me with my toothaches. - Help.com

No one will help me with my toothaches.

My tooth started to hurt friday morning at 4 am. It was real bad so I didn’t think much of it. Then on saturday it was unbearable. I called my dentist and he said if it’s real bad I should go to the hospital. I didn’t go because this was a tooth problem and dentists specialize in that. On sunday my face started to swell up. and the pain was even greater. Ive been taking advil but that still doesnt numb the pain. now today, I went to 3 dentist locations and the earliest i can get in is 2 pm, 5 more hours from now.

It seems like nobody cares about me and I’d be feeling better dead.
I’m 19 and don’t have dental insurance, so after this i’ll be super poor again.

the pain just doesn’t stop, it’s consistent and nothing makes it go away.

ok well swelling is not good. If you feel it is an emergency then go to the hospital and tell them you can’t get into the dentist for a few hours but you wanted to know if they could help you at all. People care, but they can’t work miracles. If the dentist can’t get you in for 5 hours, you’ll just have to wait 5 hours.

Perhaps at the hospital they may be able to give you vicadin or something stronger for your pain, you never know. Hope you feel better.

It sounds like you have an absessed tooth, and this can be a not only painful, but dangerous. Do go ahead and go to the hospital ER. You can at least get some antibiotics hopefully, and the hospital may be able to point you toward free or reduced dental care if you ask to speak to a social worker there.

I agree with iwana it sounds like a absesed tooth, Ive had two and yes your face will swell, usual procedure is drugs to take down the swelling , then abstraction, filling or whatever, the pain is awful hon, I hope you’ve had it seen to. Try in future to floss daily, an absess is usually caused by old food going up between the teeth, resulting in the Absess, good luck :-)
