lucid dreaming.

does anyone know how you can do this? my friend has had long running nightmares every night for god knows how long. the most sleep he gets usually is about half an hour. i thought perhaps by realising he was dreaming, and aware of his ability to manipulate the dream, he could control these dreams and get a better nights sleep. id like to help him with this as its got to the point where hes scared to go to sleep, and thats never fair.
so yeah. any info would be lovely.

i think by dramatically changing his sleeping regime would help. maybe set an alarm to wake him up at about 2 am.

Or he could take the lucidity route, i’m not sure about the best way of becoming lucid, ive been lucid about 4 times in the 16 years of dreaming so i aint got a clue how it works…

nar shelly maybe i got it wrong not the thing where theyre pinned to the bed because they cant move, the thing where u realise your dreaming, and u can control them.

evansent, he has some sort of psychotic disorder. the doctors say schizophrenia but i dont believe them, i think its a psychosis caused by bad blood flow to the brain, but thats my opinion. yes he has been treated badly, but his dreams arent memories, they usually consist of his best friends and/or himself being tortured, murdered, etc. i believe its brought on partially by stress. he doesnt sleep till about 3 or 4 am because hes scared to sleep. if anyone has an idea of how it workd thatwould be great.

they do sell some goggles I saw that is supposed to train you to know when you dream by detecting eye movement and flashing a dim light in your eyes.

but on an easier note, tell him to exercise so hes tired, lay off caffine/sugar/etc…specially at night, worked a little bit for me.

and if hes not opposed to it…tell him to smoke marijuana before he sleeps - sounds far fetched but believe me it works, marijuana isnt just a recreational thing. this is literally the only thing that kept my dreams at bay, sleeping pills and all that didnt work, plus they are addictive and not recommended to be taken regularly because side effects.

oh i remember this alright, yes it is due to him being schitzophrenic.
a friend of mine used to have them quite often
nightmares!that aws an understatement!!!

im sorry to tell you but you cant change his train of thought
tell him go back to the docs
see if he could possibly change his medication

he might need a lower dozage :>

thing is dub, A. if i get him on marijuana, his mother will hate me even more. (for some reason she thinks im a bad influence even though i only want the best for him) he cant sleep because hes scared. its not that he physically cant, he just doesnt want to. plus. if i get him on drugs, it will only make the psychosis worse. and its bad enough as it is.

i was wondering if anyone knew of any techniques? because lucid dreaming is the most suitable thing i can think of to be fair, it would be good if i could help him do it

there are no techniques that I know of, hence the goggles being invented. even with the goggles they say it still takes practice.

you dont necessarily have to turn him into a stoner but if a couple hits before bed will relax him enough to sleep at night then maybe thats all thats needed.

definately dont recommend getting prescribed anything, side effects on all those medications will scare you away for sure if you read them.

it also doesnt have to be an every day thing, a few good nights rest can work more miracles for your body then youd think, so it may stop.

I have a lot of lucid dreams, but they always come by accident—-I have never been able to “plan” one, although I have read that one can do so.

Also, once I start trying to control and manipulate the dream, I often slip awake.

Wish I could be more helpful.

oh. and evansent, he is unmedicated :S

he is afraid that if he asks his mom or dad to take him to the docs, they will either ignore him, or get angry at him. i think hes being treated unfairly on account of being the older, ‘broken’ child. i have suggested trying for medication a few times but there is only so far i can push the subject.

i dont know why he isnt taking anything, he needs to be. if i went to the docs with him, i would be accused of meddling, i cant step outta line with his mom. im already on shaky ground due to a mistake i made, which led to her finding out i used to self injure quite badly. i think she thinks im gonna try to get him into SI and make some sort of silly cult or something. little to her knowledge he has been SIing longer than me. just not as bad.
i would never want him harmed.

if a dr said hes a schitz then he must be taking something
you cant let something like that go
if he becomes a danger to other people
he needs to keep it under control
please dont take that the wrong way ok

If your friend is schzio, do NOT let him smoke. I’m schizo-effective and it make things WORSE. I lucid dream normally, but if I’m high it gets worse and scarier. Plus if he really is schizo, it may make things worse mental wise - there are recent studies saying the if you have schziophrenia, pot makes things considerably worse, even if the user feels good at the time, it’s effect can be opposite and drastic.

have him talk to his doctor and see if a med can’t be adjusted or dropped, one of mine used to make the dreams horrible. When I stopped it, dreams went back to normal.

Do a google search for a href=”http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=lucid+dreaming+techniques&btnG=Go ogle+Search&aq=3&oq=lucid+dreaming>lucid dreaming techniques /a> and it should be the first article. It is an FAQ that should be of some use.

your friend could actually be suffering from sleep apnea.. sleep apnea causes your body not to fully be asleep and relaxed causing many issues with sleep.. including bad night mares and always being tired..
