i am afraid.

i am on social security disibility and i received notice in the mail that my disibility is under review. i have been on disibility for 3 years now. i suffer from chronic severe back pain. my pain management doctor sent me a letter that i had violated their narcotic agreement and they would no longer treat me. my condition is permanent and will not improve, i have spondiliothesis and pins in my lower back. i am afraid they will take away my disibility because of doctor saying i violated the narcotics agreement. what can i do? i can’t work, i’m a 56 year old machinist with a bad back no one will hire me.

I’m not familiar with all the legalities here, but do you know if it is possible to get around these policies by volunteering to join a substance abuse program so that you are making an obvious effort to correct the “problem”? I’m not by any means saying you have a problem, my sister-in-law had similar back problems and leg injuries from being run over by a car and I know the medications, while powerful, don’t do the job. Sadly, finding ways to work within or around a broken system are often necessary these days.

Doctors in the USA constantly UNDER MEDICATE their patients for pain because of the stupid “war on drugs.” I don’t want junkies any more than the next person, but the gov’t needs to get out of the relationship between patients and doctors.
