Willpower to quit smoking cigs

I want to quit soo badly! I tell myself this is my last pack. I’ve written it down as a goal. I even given myself the guilt trip by saying do you wanna die from this? I’m young and its not like I’ve been smoking for years on end. I recently picked it up again and trying to quit once again. My father died from smoking and I don’t want to end up like him. He was in his forties and left 4 kids and a wife behind. I don’t want the same for my future kids. (That’s if I have any) I want my boyfriend to quit as well. When we got together I told him that I couldn’t be with a smoker. Here I am smoking and he often throws that in my face. I just need some advice to end this nasty habit. Any tricks of the trade would be delighted!!
thanks

Yeah in the US. I cant see myself going to any counseling hate to say that. Not a big fan of it. I’ve quit before and I didnt think I was addicted because I was off and on with it. Just cant seem to kick the habit fully.

Wow. I really admire your determination.
That’s great that you’re trying to quit.
Obviously willpower is not enough. It often isn’t in a lot of cases.
I could suggest you try patches or chewing gum specially designed for smokers.
I’ve never smoked before…but I just wanted to say keep trying to quit.
I’ve seen what smoking does to people. Obviously you have too. It’s horrible.
Best of luck mkellyn, hope this helps in some way.

It’s a really easy habit to get into.
Cigarettes are very deceptive.

I once had that nasty habit. Did the cold turkey a few times, was like living with a bear!!! Couldn’t stand myself… Then after a couple years, I foolishly picked one up again, a stress thing. So This time instead of cold turkey, I slowly weaned myself off them. Important when you decide to quite, have lots of gum, and hard candy. This keeps your mouth busy as your use to having a cig. there :) Start by saying, ok I’m only going to have one every half or 1 hr. apart. Do this till you feel ok with it. A few weeks probably. Just increase your time, getting longer and longer in between. Eventually you’l loose the desire to smoke… just be sure to have gum ,candy what ever you like to help with the urges… Good luck… You can Do This….

I smoked for 10 yr…tried quitting countless times, finally kicked it for good here’s a few suggestions:

Don’t advertise that you quit. You’re not doing it for them anyway it’s for your health and well being. It adds more pressure, I think if you tell people, almost as if you’re asking for their help and support- they can’t help you.

It’s difficult to quit w/ someone. i.e. your boyfriend or anyone else for that matter… If they fail you fail, are they sneaking cigarettes, probably it’s easier for you to rationalize smoking again.

Hate it!! It’s disgusting, hate the smell and the way the ashtrays smell. I know it seems extreme, but you have to tell yourself that your repulsed by it and people that do smoke are weak and stupid.

I had an advantage…I sprained my ankle real bad and was on cruches. I didn’t like being unhealthy and it scare me. That’s when I realized that I was putting myself at risk everyday for no reward at all.

Last tip: the time is now, there’s always going to be some stress or problem that makes you want to delay quitting or relapse. Go for it.

Buy 2 cigars…puff on those nasty things and you’ll lose interest in the whole smoking thing. Inhale if you must, that would make anyone weary of it.

Enjoy your enhanced health. All you had to do was nothing, like when you were 10 and got along fine w/out cigs.
