Am I the only person who has parents who are Christian Scientists and has suffered as a result?

what is the suffering?
Are you talking about suffering as in you had medical issues that remained untreated due to your parents religious convictions - or the emotional suffering caused by the rigidity of being raised in a theocratic household?
I was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, for those unsure of what that means it is basically hardcore Christianity - no nominals there! J.W’s do not believe in the trinity in a doctrinal sense and I guess the part most relevant to the question here - do not allow blood transfusions, or body part transfusions. I could discuss the above if it would help - but not a Christian Scientist - No.
I was raised by a mother who liked to quote the bible as an excuse to beat me or allow someone else to. “spare the rod spoil the child” I do not adhere to man made religion but find truth in them all.
Hello Smicki - I’m sorry to read that, and I know what you mean. With organized religion there is often no room for reason - how can you question the divine right to rule?
‘Spare the rod’ a phrase that sent me running.
everything happens for a reason. Life lessons are meant for just that to teach you. How you chose to learn it is up to you.
Again - I completely agree with you. I am grateful for the upbringing I had. I have a depth of understanding and I hope, tolerance combined with an insatiable desire to experience as much as I can! No ones life is easy - whatever they are born with.
YES!
Thanks for writing this post, it was something that was on my mind but didn’t know how to phrase.
Trying to fit my parents/school/community beliefs into a functioning brain sent me loopy. Combined with their irrefutable right to abuse me… It was hard to leave it behind, we humans like to be part of a herd.
I never had any close friends ever mention being “Christian Scientists” but the publication “Christian Science Monitor” was an acceptibly credible news-source for speech competitions in (public) high school. I went back and read some of the actuality of the religion and it seemed a little weird to me but no one ever had a problem with me quoting that newspaper on some issues.
