I am totally obsessed with Christmas when it is September.

I really can’t help getting exited about it at the end of summer. Please help me calm down!

In the late 1960s and 1970s I was an actress, and during summer stock every year I would get very close to the other members of the company—cast, crew, ushers, lighting technicians—and want to share the holiday with them. So for no particular reason we declared August 15 to be Christmas. Each summer we’d cut down a tree, string popcorn, bake star-shaped cookies, glue glitter on pine cones, make eggnog, and sing carols. We’d also make or buy inexpensive (often joke) presents for each other, wrapping them in red and green paper. Forty years later, I still have some of our hand-made ornaments.

LOVED it.
