The Two Wolves
An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me… it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”
They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied… “The one you feed.”

Both will grow, but the more they grow, the harder it will become to balance the two and one will eventually become the stronger.
I like teachings like this :}
negativity feeds on itself so if you also feed it, it will diminish the positive even more.
I love this post Missy. What does it say about the nature of the media we consume?

I would think the same thing. We are our surroundings just as we are our thoughts. If you watch the news and read the paper daily I am quite sure you will be effected by the negativity in it. That’s what sells, no? I’ve always been a strong believer in balance and try to live that.
Not to say that there is harm in feeling those emotions, hurt, anger, sorrow…as we wouldn’t have them if they weren’t natural. It’s finding the balance that is key so that one can get beyond those emotions and not allow them to dictate a permanent negative existence.
If we get stuck in that mindset of negativity that is what I believe attributes to most cases of depression. Music, television, books, papers, video games, people…if one is constantly surrounded by an atmosphere of negativity it would certainly make it harder to find positives. That is why I try to surround myself with joy and weed the negative thoughts which would feed a miserable existence.
As Buddha states, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.”
how do we feed one side?

Quite simply by not feeding the other. When a negative thought enters your mind, wish it away and leave in it’s place a positive affirmation about your self or situation or anything really.
well im tired and thinking negatively at the moment like in my last post.. i dunno wat to do to think positively.
wud it be a good idea to try and think of ways to be round positive situations and ppl?
Brings a whole new meaning to “Hungry Like The Wolf” by Duran Duran…
It can be as simple as making a list of the things you are grateful for. That can be a start to a positive mood…go for a walk in the sun, put on a happy tune and dance…call someone you know is funny…I find laughter to be the best medicine.

I like :D knew I would before I even got here. Someone once asked me here where I got such wisdom, turned out I had a lot to say. So I ask you- where does your wisdom come from?
I had never thought of it like that before, interesting…

Well thanks my friend! Hmm…it’s hard to put into words.
I’ll keep it simple, from that which created me and set forth in motion the events and experiences that would teach me and through me, others and so on. I believe we all have special gifts and something to offer to help better our world and humanity.

A good story. I hope neither wolf wins because life is found in the struggle.
True Purelogix, it certainly is which is why I maintain it’s all about the balance.
