Is it okay if I put my goldfish in sink water just until I get the chemicals for them?
I got them at the fair 5 days ago and they have been in the same water ever since and its getting very dirty.

get the chems first. clean tank. put them in cup of lukewarm tap. clean tank. add chems to tank, then add fish.
that’s how it is suggested you do it.
I am not sure if it is ok for them to be in tap water for more than an hour.
distilled water would work though
Honestly, I would strongly advise not to use chemicals in the water. Just plain old water from the foscet is good enough. I know from personal experience that fish live alot longer when it’s just ordinary water, many people try putting goldfish in modified water and they don’t live as long. I can understand if it was a exotic fish from the ocean, but you shouldn’t need to do all of that for a goldfish.
alright thanks. do you think I should wait a few hours after I put the sink water in the bowl? Or should I just put them in right after?
Anytime, room temperature should be good, just make sure the water isn’t too warm.
Goldfish mainly die due to a SHOCK, that is, change of water conditions too quickly… If you are going to change the water, make sure you do it in SEGMENTS, again, that is, take 10% of the current water out, replace with 10% new water, repeat…
Ever notice when you buy a goldfish in a water bag you put the whole bag into the tank and let the water slowly mix with the current lot (even that is flawed, but you see my point)
(May I suggest getting mozilla firefox with spellchecker? )
it really is nice.
not trying to be rude or anything, but it it nice

OH SHI- how could i forget that?!
okay, well I put them in sink water just a few minutes ago. Pray they don’t die!
They should be fine.. If not, they are like 5 dollars at the pet store ^.^
But someone won these for me so there specialll.
I think if you use boiled water and let it get cold, just while you change the water, that gets most of the cruddies out of it. But if you google, how to change goldfish water, you may get some idea’s…Im not an expert, but thats what I used to do, and mine lived so… lol good luck. :-)
Awww; just buy a water neutraliser and apply, I’ve got like 200 goldfish living in a small lake-feature at my place, they live fine (except when the **** neighbours cats used to swipe them and eat them on my patio) :@
Gold fish $5?? Where are you buying your gold fish? Don’t shop there anymore. They are no more than $2 tops! Also, the only chemical to put in goldfish water is “DeChlor” to get rid of the Chlorine. When I was young I used to have to get tap water and let it sit out for 24 hours and then it would be safe for the goldfish. You don’t have to mix the original water gradually because it’s differnt water, it’s to create the same temperature gradualy for the fish. The temperature change is the shock to the fish.
Ah, knew I had it half right =P the more you know eh?
ah, but im from Australia, and our dollar is strange and everything costs more…
A happy meal from McDonalds here costs $5.95 heh
I paid $15 for a Big goldfish and it died within 15 mins of putting it in the tank, we used a heater and maybe the water got too hot for the fish, dunno, ay suggestions?
I am worrying like mad. This will be the first time i have got a goldfish and i want it to be happy. I have researched getting it and stuff but i was given a tank as a gift.I thought it was fine but apparently one goldfish needs 10 gallons to be happy. My tank is diamond shape and 10″ by 10″ i dunno how many gallons that is. Will my fish die if he doesn’t have a bigger tank? AND does a goldfish really need a filter even if i clean it’s tank regularly?
yeah your goldfish should be fine in that tank but just have 1 in there no more its my first time to its scary because you dont no what he likes or not:(
i still do no if boiled warter is better than tap can someone tell me please??
I just put my fish in tap water then added aquasafe cuz my fish went in to tem shock i waited about 5 minutes after i put in water then repeated dont put it in all at once, Then buy a temputure thing at walmart or somethingg! Check the water after 10 minutes to make sure it is likee 70 to 75 degreeses.
The proper way to do it is to take out some of the water and put it in a cup or bowl. Then put the fish in, clean the tank put the new clean water in with the water cleaner stuff (I forgot what it’s called). After that you can put the fish back in. Also goldfish have to stay in water 63-70 degrees.
