this question for someone who knows stuff about oxy-acetylene torches.

my welding intructor wants me to pierce a hole in inch thick metal big enough to fit a pipe. i put on the apropriate tip, put in the right gas working preassures, and did everything that was supposed to make it cut. but whenever i tried it, it would only get like a quarter way through and it would just keep backfiring and flashbacking. i did this alott of times and tried different things but with the same result. anything im doing wrong? im supposed to get this done verry soon and it has to be really good >

maybe you need to hold the tip closer to what you are cutting. That, or you might not have the right tip, but to me it sounds like you do. I’m trying to remember from last year what the pressure to use was for 3/4 inch metal, and i think it was… 5 pounds oxygen and 8 accetlyne, but i may be way off.

i set it to 6 acetylyne, and 47 oxygen, its what it was supposed to, exept i needed more oxygen preasure. and i used a size 2 tip which is for one inch thick material, and i held it 3 mm to 2 inches away, and i even tilted it some times
