11 Days of Peace ~Day 9~ Native American Traditions

*Cheyenne Prayer

Let us know peace.
For as long as the moon shall rise,
For as long as the rivers shall flow,
For as long as the sun will shine,
For as long as the grass will grow,
Let us know peace.

*Native American prayer for peace

Oh Great Sprit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you.
To your messengers the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other
so that they may grow with peace of mind.
Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this earth.

Thanks Spunky.

I think the Cheyenne Prayer is safe to share with all people of all beliefs. Since it is not directed specifically to God or a Higher being. It is more like a affirmation or statement of peace. Since my daughter is studying Native americans in social studies. I think I am going to pass this one on to her teacher. Because they are also are discussing peace this week.

Thanks for adding that miss enigma. I love seeing the native language. I have no idea how to pronounce any of it, but there is something beautiful in seeing those written words, just imagining the sound of them being spoken.

Maybe some John Two-Hawks flute playing in the back ground as those words are being said.

That would be beautiful.
I have a friend who teaches Native language, it’s pretty amazing and incredibly hard to pronounce lol. There are actually different languages and pronunciations for each of the clans, Mohawk, Onondaga, etc. That’s just in my area lol. Did you know there aren’t any vulgar words in the language? It’s said that this is because people believe that harsh words should never be spoken. Anyway, I could go on..lol
Glad you didn’t mind that addition Babacup. :)
