I noticed; everyone belonging to the LDS Church seem so happy?

As far as I can see, they appear to be very content in a calm, well-balanced way. I’m curious, why is that? Other Christians doesn’t seem to have the same experience, even if they too believe in God and Jesus as their saviour. What is there about Mormonism?

I know a couple of Mormons!
I don’t know that they are happier necessarily. I do know that they seem to practice a lot more self-denial! No coffee, no booze, no swearing etc.

I don’t know if that makes them happier, or just more self-repressed!

They are all-American Christianity. They may feel at peace in America, more so than others. This is a guess.

But yeah, some of the happiest people I’ve known were Mormons.

Well it’s been a looooooooooooong time ago. I was making a film in college and happened to have a project partner who new a Mormon family that acted for us. We shot film (real film btw not video) at their house and they were the most balanced, wholesome family I ever met. I actually visited their church once, but their beliefs were a bit out there for me. Had a relative who converted and other relatives got all bent out of shape and worried that he was joining a cult. I didn’t worry because, whatever else, they put their families first.

The ones i’ve met, which isn’t that many, seem live the Christian ideals far more truly than a lot of other Christians I’ve met.

I grew up going to school with Mormons who were no different than anyone else. But then they go on a coming-of-age-mission that makes them interact with society based out of their religion.

So you mean they find some kind of peace through their mission experience? That would make some sense, as most other Christians never do that.

That would make sense if they were doing humanitarian work on their mission, but I’m pretty sure (not entirely) that they do evangelism for 2 years on their bikes. That doesn’t sound transformative to me.

Mormons seem so happy because they take care of their own. Most other churches won’t lift a finger to help one of their own members. I could never be a Mormon, but I really admire how they take care of one another!

So, it’s really all about being part of a loving, caring community then. That’s why.
Plus, some inner peace that comes from knowing they’re doing what they believe to be the right thing. Being true to themselves..

youve hit it right on. im not a mormon, but i have some comparable experience with jehovah’s witnesses. its the same type of thing. just remember, though, happiness is an individual thing too. just being part of a community, regardless of how happy it is, does not guarantee anything.

Well yay! hey I’m a Mormon! ha ha! Being Mormon does not mean I’m perfect. Even I have hard difficult and rough times. Bicycling perhaps may boost the endorphins but I don’t believe that’s the full cause :) Also, there was some chat up above about Missions… while this is definately a changing and growing experience for many not all do go nor are they required to do so. I chose to go at the beginning of this year, but became sick and unable to fulfill a full two years. ( a trial yet I’m still happy) I think some of your observations have greatly hit upon happiness. I believe the gathering and having similar purpose in heart and mind really does a lot for people. I believe its a principle often overlooked and underestimated. And I also believe that it is our sincere belief in having knowledge of who we are where we came from and where we are going, …. this is all very simply put (yet I seem very long winded) :) but this post was interesting discussion to me.

Thanks for your clarifying answer unclesam, that was highly appreciated! I see you have (had) some trials in your life yet you seem somewhat happy :) Do you have another go at finishing your mission? “Similar purpose in heart and mind” that’s beautiful. Again, thanks a lot and my sincere best wishes.

AHAHA!!!
THis makes me happy.
I’m a mormon, and there’s a post on how happy we are! hahaha!!!!
Okay…now that that’s done:
I truly think most of it lies in self-denial. Our way of life is guilt free, although extremely hard to live fully. I try, but I’m not perfect.
In addition to avoiding nasty after effects, mormons have to find creative ways of having fun. Which we do.
You should see some of our line dances. :)

Actually StarChild, I have a Mormon friend, and he has recently begun questioning his Mormonism.
He was raised Mormon, not a convert.
He seems ready to just give it away!
