How to fake smile?

Mine always looks artificial even though i practice it a lot.
People say smile at people to be more friendly but i just can’t manage that when i am anxious!!

The idea of a fake smile is that it looks fake

Very true Emily!!

A smile is in the eyes, I know it sounds corny, but it’s got nothing to do with the corners of your mouth lifting up!
If you can smile with your eyes, then the smile will look genuine, regardless of whether you’re grimacing or not!

I have always wished I could put on a happy face when I was not happy.

Have you ever seen the way dancers can smile during a dance. They seem like they are the happiest people on earth. Feet killing them and muscles aching. I guess like dancing, it is an art.

I guess the only way is by practicing on people. Walk around and smile and say hello to people. Do it enough times and you should have the perfect fake smile.

With practice, it’s easy to smile without being happy. It’s something I’ve been doing all my life - not meaning that in a morbid depressed way but I’ve always smiled no matter what my mood, if I was upset, tired, hungry, cold, you can smile. I can smile.

I think of someone saying something nice or slightly funny, and of me giving a warm friendly smile and that is how I smile. Act like you are in the middle of hysterics and freeze the expression, think of a bad joke or something that tickled you and smile!

Bring the smile into your eyes - kind of crease them up, slightly squinting. You have to smile with your eyes to make it look genuine.

a good way to fake a smile is done when you know you have to - its a technique nicked from method actors! think of something that makes you smile (and even the most mopingly depressed goth finds something funny!) - could be a weird situation, the stupid dress someones wearing or your favourite comedian. Try it now - bet you’re smiling! then try it with others.
