class help: I am starting a philosophy class and I want to know as much as I can. - Help.com

I am starting a philosophy class and I want to know as much as I can.

I want to know if anything is solid in philosophy, is there any true facts in it. Are there any basics to philosophy?

a philosopher is simply one who loves knowledge.

i could go into arguments of ethics and theos/logos/pathos, and the cosmological argument….
…but i won’t.

all you need to know to start philosophy is the first line.

philosophy: from greek, “philos”=love, “sophis”=wise

philosphy is the art of life–cicero (i think)

the one constant in philosphy is that every philosopher (and, every student of philosophy) has a different idea. its not like science.

good luck!

If you want to be prepared, check out what you will be reading for this class. They will not expect you to know much about philosophy in advance and probably start with some definitions. As with most sciences, there are different schools of thought within philosophy so it is difficult to give a definition because they don’t agree on one. That will probably be part of your first lecture. One of the basics of philosophy is logic though. So you could start by finding out a bit more about inductive and deductive reasoning. Or, if you want a nice read and a bit of feeling for the field, read the world of Sophie.
