Mamma Moose and Baby Hiding Out From The Big Boys
IN MY YARD!
This mother has been here for 4 days now, her calf is still nursing so I think she is hiding out. The bulls are in the rut and she doesn’t want her nursing calf to be chased off, especially before winter. My gates are closed and she must of broke in, she isn’t budging either. They are enjoying the pool, hollyhocks, and a wonderful assortment of my flowers. The baby gets in the pool and the mother coos, It sounds like MMMUUUGH, MMMUUGH,
Yesterday a bull showed up and soon he and other bulls will be collecting in the meadow for a showdown.

They are amazing to watch and just massive. You can just see the strength and power they have.
You are sure lucky my friend! Nature at it’s best. If were lucky around here, you get the occasional deer coming out to hit your car.lol, lol, Get to see the ducks though at our local amusment park lol, lol, u envy you, lucky see all the animals from God’s creations :)
I am, and I love them and do my best to be kind and helpful in the winter. I always respect them. I’ve always trained my dogs to, too.
Wow, you are so lucky! What an a amazing sight to have in your own backyard! Can the kids and I come live with you? lol ;) All I have in my yard are the squirrels I feed, mind you they are almost trusting enough to take a nut from my hand now…I miss country living…
lq2m, i wish i had mooses in my back yard, all we have is deer…you’re going to take pictures of the showdown right?? or video tape it??
That is fantastic. Thanks for the invite shie.
The picture with the mother close to the lawn chairs helps show how huge she is. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us. I really enjoy them.
Whoa, Greeneyes, it’s moose chili this weekend!
You have a nice way with words, Sans! LOL :)
I love that first picture at the top with Mama moose and her calf. Simply beautiful!
Nice Momma and baby pics.
Moose is very rich meat, You cant eat much. I love Elk, and know all kinds of ways to fix it. But its a once in a life time draw to hunt one. I love to shoot and target practice, love to practice achery, but I never kill anything. My husband hunts. The winter kill can be cruel here, they starve to death when winter is severe, I would rather see the weak ones shot, rather than suffer a starving death. Alot of people dont understand that, but until you see a hillside littered with dead animals and ones that are so weak they cant walk, you would understand.
Oh I do, just teasing is all. I’m no jainist, love me a good rare steak on occasion lol. Nothing more heartbreaking than seeing an animal or anything suffer. I have learned from Natives in my area that it is a gift to have an animal that you have killed and they use all of it, nothing goes to waste. I admire that.
Yes, my husband always puts grass in their mouths after a kill, a native American tradition of respect.
That’s such a wonderful thing, respect is so important for all things in creation.
Not yet, I haven’t been so lucky. I have learned a lot from friends in my area though about Iroquois culture and am honored to have had that shared with me.

Miss Enigma,
Have you read “Black Elk Speaks” or “Pretty Feather?” Some of the best books I have ever read. Look into it, you won’t be sorry”.
omg… more bulls are showing up?? cool kind of.. but a bit worried that one of them will figure a way to get into the mama.. :(

ahhhh wildlife. Let’s see… I have raccoons under the house… dozens of squirrels bouncing around… the neighbor has goats, and their chickens end up in my yard all the time. Lots of cats around… let me think; have I ever seen a moose in my yard…. hmmmm…. no I don’t think so. Actually, I’m pretty sure about it now … never saw a moose in my yard. I’ve seen mice in the house, but not moose in yard.
“GOD’S COUNTRY “…..beautiful , want a border…lol.

how about a mouse ON the house???? hehehehehehehe
Oh 2greeneyes, those pictures are fantastic. Moose in your yard. I love it when you can see them against your garden furniture, it really brings it home. Thos moose have made themselves quite at home haven’t they! How utterly marvelous. The nearest I get is a house cat straying to get the birds in my back yard. Not the same somehow!
Please keep us updated on the state of moose play. *hugs*
Anubis,
She has, and fall prep for all my beds is on the way side. All the bulbs I had seperated and on the table are gone! Im sure they were great and maybe they will still be pretty somewhere! I should show “Breakfast at Greeneyes” the baby was playing yesterday, kicking up his heels and being a big boy. She is such a sweet mother and really seems to love this calf, constant cooing and clean up. He’s bouncy and full of it.
Richard, ever take your trash out and open the door and something 11 feet high, is there to greet you in the dark? That will get the ol heart pumping! We all have to be careful this time of year. I love it though, and hope you all like catching a glimpse when they are here. Its amazing how the rest of the year they are so elusive.
Oh one other thing. My dog and her have an agreement now, its awesome. She see’s that this dog is not chasing or harassing her. So she can have all the backyard, and the two side yards and my dog has the front. She can man the driveway, the deck and the front step, only then if it is breached does barking and posturing take place
They’re so cute! How di you get that close?

AMAZING!
6½ feet tall, huh? It must be impressive to have one standing right in front of you, for sure! … or looking at you through your living room window! Wow!
Amazing pictures, 2greeneyes. Thank you for sharing them with us. :)
