I like this girl but i don’t know her.

I started by talking to her best mate and we got to know each other quite well. There is nothing going on between me and her best mate, we have no attraction to each other. I have never spoken to this girl i like, and i really want to. I’m scared of rejection and that she won’t like me. Also she is one year older than me. HELP! (:
