I like Darren Hayes’ music.

He is the former singer of Savage Garden. I am having trouble finding similar artists. I like that he can do pop music with out it being a sugary, vacuous, sap-fest. I’d like to find more artists like him. However, when I search for similar artists online (amazon, itunes, last.fm), the results usually only include already famous pop stars, like Madonna or Brittney. These results seem to be based on the fact that the majority people who like Darren Hayes also like other popular pop music. I want something that is more like the music rather than liked by the same fans. I’m looking for something a little less known, a new discovery, something that is more like his music, a little more thoughtful, something a little less manufactured.

Any ideas?

Try Alexz Johnson. She’s a girl, but she’s kind of in that same groove. She’s sort of pop-rock-indie-alternative-progressive. She’d really good, edgy and soulful. Kind of bluesy.
I also love Simple Plan. They’re fantastic.

Ah, another Darren Hayes fan.

Shannon Noll is another Australian artist that you might find you like. I’m not sure if you would call him “similar” to Darren Hayes, but I’d place him in the same category. He was the runner-up of Australian Idol back in 2003, he has a little like a pop/country feel. However, I still love the majority of his songs.

I reccommend Learn To Fly, personally if you want to give him a try.
