Help.com Primer: HELP YOURSELF!

Alrighty Kids, I’ve been here for a bit and I think its darn good time that someone take charge and stop all the laziness around here. By laziness, I’m not refering to any of the helpers, but instead, the masses of folks that post anon. questions that are worthless and can be easily solved within seconds. So here is a primer on using help.com. :-D

If your question is like the following: “How do I solve 6x+3y-4=0?” These problems are all togeather much too easy. The following link is an automatic equation solver. Make sure you have the whole equasion in it, so in my example above, you would need to put “6x+3y-4=0″ in the first box, and then the variable you’re solving for in the second:

If your question is like the following: “What does ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’ mean?” The answer is so easily found through one of my favorite sites. www.google.com. When going to google, if you need a definition for something, you can type the phrase, “define:” (without quotes) and then the word you want to know what it means. Google will search sites such as princeton’s wordnet, wikipedia, and other useful sites to bring you the definition.

If your question is something like this: “How do I write a haiku?” Or any other how question, I have two favorite websites for you!

www.ehow.com
www.wikihow.com

These sites are awesome for looking up things. Might I also recommend that you read the directions on the package (when applicable). :-D

How do I talk to this boy/girl/swamp monster I like? The answer is, be outgoing! Just up and talk to them, be friendly, but not too much so to begin with, develop a friendship with them and with time, if you still like them, you can ask them out or whatnot.

Alright, I’m done. Good luck everyone that didn’t find an answer in my above statement.

And if you do decide to post, remember to put a line inbetween your title and your actual question, otherwise I see a paragraph in big letters and it injures my mind.

I just copy and paste the same thing over and over it seems like on the “how to ask a girl/guy out”.

Jeff you need to make a new front door for unvaried, anon users with written articles for their problems..like a front door of articles. Of course you’ll have to figure out how to scan for anon user to go to that stylesheet. That way no one has to answer them but there they can just read pre made answers….I’m not sure how you would do that?

A dilemma we’ve pondered many, many times. The core of the issue that I keep coming back to as unavoidable, however, is that many of these people are looking for the “quick fix” solution. An “instant, accurate, and perfect #1 search result” — which, honestly, is nigh impossible.

I mean, it’s about effort. The user coming in sees a question box and a list of categories. They COULD click the category, dig in a little bit and discover that their question has already been answered more than satifactorily. However, that “ask now” box is right there!

So the problem is two fold — many are too lazy or too impatient to research an answer, and the technology we use to provide answers can’t read minds. A solution to this problem is a million dollar idea.

I’ve not much used www.answers.com, I’m just a big wikipedia addict myself. Good site though, I’ll keep it in mind for later.
