Prozac is helping my depression very much but i can no longer write poetry, which is my career.

I have tried so many other antidepressants–Zoloft, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Lamictal, Cytomel, Wellbutrin, Effexor, dexedrine–Wellbutrin was great but stopped working, so now only Prozac works and that has killed my desire to create. What to do?

Bloody hell, if you can make a living out of poetry (becaue most writers I know can’t) you should get off the drug and write. :)

That is tough, but I’m afraid my opinion is different than Anubis. Depression affects every aspect of your life, as you know. You can find another way to earn a living. Since you’re a writer, lots of avenues are open to you.

being a person who suffers from depression.. i totally understand what you mean about writing poetry.. i have found that.. when you are feeling sad.. your feelings come out so much more and easier on paper… but when you arent feeling those feelings of sadness… the writing is gone…

im sorry that you are having this issue… but i believe that your mental health should come before your writing… seriously.

Have you lost the desire to write or lost the ability to write sad poetry? The best poets seem to be depressed and melancholy, and their work reflects that. Is it that the Prozac is helping you and now you can’t write about the sad things you used to? If so, write about other things that are dominant in your life, or other thoughts/worries/desires/philosophy/etc.

However, if it’s killed all of your desire and ability to write, then I dunno. I guess ask yourself what you’d prefer, happiness or your current career. Depends on how well the Prozac works I guess.
