Likely your internet anti-virus blocked you from downloading/executing the virus (meaning it isn’t on your computer). Basically figure out what website you were at at the time and never go back.

No good, gotta get either AVG (free) or Norton (paid). Otherwise, if you are certain that the .exe was not net-based… just wait and hope.

AVG has internet protection, but not really top of the line. Norton is the best out there for Net Protection. Really depends on how much you value your computer. If you don’t mind the thought of it crapping out and dying within the next 2-3 years from viruses stick to the free stuff. If you need this computer to be fully functional over the long-term or just can’t risk losing your data (music, papers, games, etc.) pony up the $ and get Norton, it’s pretty much the standard for virus protection. Kinda like what Trojan is for protecting your knarblies.

Typically those messages are tied to cookies or spyware. Norton is VERY effective at removing spyware. A free spyware remover like AdAware might help if you can’t afford Norton, not as effective but better than nothing.

Without the exact phrasing from the error, can’t be certain but it sounds like a virus or other spyware was attempting to direct you to a ‘phishing’ site. It’s a site that visually looks exactly like the site you meant to go to but is a mock-up that collects whatever info you enter like logins and passwords.

As to being directed to your own country’s yahoo, that is controlled by small preference files called cookies that most websites store in your temporary internet items folder on your harddrive. Most of these cookies are harmless and just make it easier to get around the internet (taking you to whatever page on yahoo you most frequently visit rather than having to click around) but if you are experiencing new problems it might help to delete your cookies and set your net-browser to not accept cookies. If you are using Internet Explorer, under the Tools menu you can look under Internet Options to turn off cookies and to delete your cache, browsing history, and any current cookies.
