Pamprine or another type of Menstrual reliever
Apply heat, put a heating pad on your lower abdomen and on your back helps too, or a hot water bottle. However, for some women, a build-up of blood in their pelvis may be the culprit behind their cramps, in which case an ice pack is actually more useful than a heat pack. The cold from the ice pack works to draw the blood out of the pelvis and towards the extremities. Try using both kinds of packs to see which is best for you.
If you can, avoid standing, especially if you have a sore back. Better yet, lie down and pull your knees up towards your chest. Many women find that lying in the fetal position helps to relieve the pain in their pelvis as well as any back pain they may have.
While it is likely to be the last thing on your mind, exercise really can help reduce cramps so long as your workout is gentle. Walking is an excellent, gentle activity as is swimming. Some yoga positions may also be beneficial. Additionally, working out regularly, not just when you have your period, can also work to reduce the severity of your cramps
Drink lots of water or herbal tea

If the pain is absolutely too severe, go see a doctor

You should see a doctor if its truely that bad. But Midol is a menstrual pain reliever, so you dont have to worry about conceiving problems in the future. Of course, you should get a doctors opinion for your particular situation.

Yes, for sure seek your DR. opinion if too severe. Sometimes you can have a small cyst, that can account for the severe pains.I would get that checked out, and then your DR. can recommend the proper treatment to bebefit you. Sure hope you get this painful issue resolved :( Take care!!!!

I normally get really really bad cramps, youre definately not the only one! The fainting though.. that could be b.c of something else. I would really suggest making an appointment with your OBGYN.

If it’s that bad it could be PCOS or another serious condition.

well, I was just wondering. It doesn’t have anything to do with your menstrual pain. But I had three babies “au naturel…’ Talk about cramps. Additionally, after you have a baby, you get ‘uterine cramping’ as the uterus goes back to its original size. And it gets worse with each baby b/c the uterus has to work harder. You get huge a$$ clots and pain that is almost nauseating. So, after that, menstrual cramps no longer bother me. And yes, I still get them even after the babies.

Sorry for my rant. The only thing I can say is that if you have menstrual cramps that are that bad, you need to see a doctor.

Oh yeah. something that is an ‘old wives’ tale’ about menstrual cramps that my mom told me about and her mom told her and her mom told her….etc seems to really work, too.

Lay on your back, and do that old fashioned ‘bicycle’ exercise, where you lay on your back and move your legs as if you are riding a bicycle. Do it for 10 minutes and should ease cramps. Try it next time and let me know. It seems as if the old wives tales are corny, but they are there for a reason….

You could try hot compress on the area. It works with me. I was told to as much as possible avoid taking pain relievers because they SAID that it makes you dependent. They don’t have any proofs though.

When the pain is starting, go up and down the stairs, jog or brisk walk. The lower part of our body must move a lot. Exercise or simply going up and down the stairs releases endorphin (i think). It’s a hormone that makes you feel better.

Daily exercise prevents that pain during menstration. I’m just too lazy to make exercise daily. HAHA.

I hope this helped.

try birth control. even if you dont need it for actual birth control, its supposed to make your periods shorter and less intense.

Hey - please listen up… how long have you been getting bad period pain? Some pain is normal and you just have to grin and bear it. Are painkillers enough to help you? How long is the pain hanging around for?

For those of you who have really severe cramps, to the point where you can’t work and perhaps vomiting… are you like this for 2-3 days or even more? There is something you must look up:

ENDOMETRIOSIS

It’s such a hidden thing that not a lot of women know about and we just call it period pain. But if it’s crippling, then you really need to check this out. Doctors might take the first step and put you onto a contraceptive pill - to help balance things and ease monthly discomfort. But if it is endometriosis, this won’t work for you and you need to go to a gynaecologist. If you have this, the lining of the womb just kind of “overgrows” and builds up on the uterus, ovaries and can spread further. It can create scar tissue, and if left unchecked and cause infertility. Fortunately - in this modern day and age, it can be dealt to, but we need the medical experts to help us out. It’s not something that will go away.

Don’t mean to scare anybody, and sorry if that was a little graphic, but my daughter had this. She had many years of terrible crippling cramps that lasted about 3 days. We were unaware of this condition and it was only after I read an article advising mothers to - take note if your doctor has prescriped contraceptive pills for your daughter’s pain - that prompted us back to the doctor and get to a gynaecologist.

It is something that is best dealt to.

(Have only replied anonoymously for the sake of my daughter.)
