AVG and AdAware, you can use both free (trial versions are better but will only work so long, the fully free versions aren’t as effective but always work for free).

Alternatively if the computer is truly crapped up, you might contact the manufacturer of the computer and request an OS-disk (a disc to reinstall the software and operating system to the same state as when you bought the computer). You’ll lose everything you’ve added since buying it… but it’s better than a uselessly crapped up system.

As to blocking pop-ups, if you are using Internet Explorer (is the button you press to get to the internet a blue ‘e’?) then you can click ‘Tools’ at the very top of the screen, then click ‘Internet Options’ and one of the options will allow you to block pop-ups.

Hello, it appears that you have had expert advice from the great Anthrax, a great mod of this site, well I forget what is in it, but one thing is that if you are ever downloading software, download it from the company owned website!

Yeah, it’s very important to download security software from secure sources. There are a lot of places that offer “internet security” and all you end up with is another virus. Download.com and softpedia.com are my preferred choices.

If your PC seems like its slowing down and having a hard time surfing the web or just doesn’t seem right. If you think that you have a virus or bug. You need to clean it out first to find out what’s causing the problems. Here’s a few programs that I use regularly and they take very little time and skill to run.
You should go to http://download.com and get these programs.
AD WARE AND SPY WARE REMOVERS:
AD-Aware: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.htm…
Spybot search and destroy: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search…
CCleaner: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000…
If you don’t have an Antivirus program you can use.
Avast: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Ed…
or AVG: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Viru…
and for your firewall a good program is
Zone Alarm: http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Fir…
Install these programs and run them regularly. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)
