i suffer from panic attacks as well. although i haven’t had an attack in quite a while. i usually just talk myself down. my doc put me on klonopin to help me, but i didn’t really take them. you just need to tell yourself that it is all in your head.

i find some situations so embarrasing because of the physical consequences that they bring, like shaking, shortness of breath, so i panic because i know im going to embarass myself, which only makes the panic attack more likely and much worse, its like a vicious circle. what can i do?? :(

Talk to your tutors and explain the situation. Ask that they please not volunteer you for contribution because of the stress it puts you through. They should understand.

yeah if i were you id talk to my professors and explain to them that i have panic disorder. maybe you should go to the doc and get on some meds. and try doing things daily that calm you. maybe some yoga, or meditation, or a walk…painting, writing, drawing? something that makes you happy yet calm

Lexapro!!!It’s pretty much the only thing that keeps me from panicking and crap. I highly recommend it. Also, my psych teacher introduced me to relaxation videos on youtube. They’re great for if you’re continually stressed and need to sleep:)

When I was having panic attacks I remember that they always got really bad when I was called on in class, too. It was horrible because people knew I was smart because I could finish the work, but whenever someone asked me a question I couldn’t even speak. I’ve never been medicated and I never had very good luck with counselors. I had to really talk myself out of having those attacks on my own. I think for a lot of people that would never work though. I basically went out and forced myself to do things that I knew triggered attacks until I quit reacting to the situations. If you think this will work for you, then you should try it, but if you don’t feel like you can, then there is nothing wrong with that either.

I get obsessively fidgety when put in a situation. I use to carry around a worry stone, or a string of beads that I’d roll in my hand to break up the focus.
