Hi, I live in Brazil, and I’ve been told that you, americans, think we speak spanish! but no, we speak portuguese….

I knew that, and I am american!!! I have not been to Brazil but I have been to Venezuela,Colombia,Argentina and Ecuador :)
Yes they speak Spanish, I know :)

Portuguese seems a lot like spanish to me. More so than other latin languages like french or italian.

It may be relative to one’s native language and family, but I can read the Portugese wikipedia front page with little effort, like I could read spanish — French is much more difficult for me.
