Thought help: Is it possible to be overwieght or ‘chubby’ and healthy? - Help.com

Is it possible to be overwieght or ‘chubby’ and healthy?

The reason I ask is because next tear I’m walking across america, and this includes the grand canyon. I hear that if you’re not in top top shape then this trip is nearly impossible. I don’t want to take a car or mule, I want to HIKE this thing, which I know people do. Anyone with any thoughts on this please comment.

If you want to do it without getting so exhausted that you can’t enjoy it, then i suggest you start getting fit. I dont mean going to the gym everyday and trying to become a proffesional athlete, i just mean perhaps go on some shorter, easier hikes as a lead up. This is what i do before going on a long hike.
Maybe start going to the gym once a week, or just going for short walks each day. You dont need to become and elite runner, just get your body used to it.

Hope you have fun on your trip, sounds awesome.

Sounds good to me, I mean I can box, and I did karate for years, and I love going up the hills on a mountain bike, but I just feel this is something huge that I’m undertaking, so I do wanna be ready for it. :)

In a word, the answer is no. If you are overweight, you are setting yourself up for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. You may feel all right NOW, but you are already beginning to shorten your life span. So, the word from here is to lose the weight and feel and look your best! (P.S. Walking is good, but you need to get your heart rate up for the best exercise benefit. That means running or other exercise to “work up a sweat.” There’s no EASY way.
